Atlas Mountains snow cover
Norman - I've been in those mountains in January, and they _do_ get a
surprising amount of snow most winters ...! There is a very upmarket ski resort in the mountains of Morocco - no, I'm not joking - apparently the biggest danger there is not broken bones but skin cancer owing to very strong UV at high altitude and relatively low latitude. The contrast between crisp icy snow, deep blue skies and a high solar elevation makes for marvellous photographs. Stephen |

Cooper writes Norman, Similar NOAA image from 0235 today: http://tinyurl.com/84q8t Note also snow cover in southern Spain. Karl Cooper, Orkney Yes indeed. The Sierra Nevada reach about 10,000 feet there and get a thick covering in most winters. There's also snow to be seen on the imagery on the mountain peaks between Tebessa and Batna in extreme NE Algeria, near the Tunisian border. The highest peaks there are about 7,600 feet. Mount Etna on Sicily appears to be well covered. Norman. (delete "thisbit" twice to e-mail) -- Norman Lynagh Weather Consultancy Chalfont St Giles 85m a.s.l. England |
