For example, I was born in December 1946 and spent my first months in a pram in an unheated hallway! I joined the RAF in late 1962 and spent that winter in a wooden hut with just a pot-bellied coal stove for heating! So it is not surprising that I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 years in northern Labrador (where -40°C is not uncommon). -- Zak |

![]() "Will Hand" wrote in message ... It's about four and three quarters isn't it ? :-) Seriously, that's a good point Dave and rather sad in a way that in our warmer climate they may never will unless they go on holiday to somewhere high. Will. -- Well I'm off to Lillehammer on the 7th February so should get to experience some cold there. Adam |

Your Raynaud's statement was brought to my attention and I thought that
you may be interested in a great thing that just happened to me. I was diagnosed with Raynaud's about 15 years ago and the last couple of years have been hell since I work in the operating room. Our weather in Northern California isn't as bad as yours but we do get into single digits at times but work is the real problem. The usual drugs used for Raynaud's cause my blood pressure to drop to extreme lows so they're out. I was on the brink of having to go on total disability when I convinced my doctor to let me try Viagra. It is wonderful for the condition and I have warm hands and feet at work for the first time in years. I guess there would be distracting effects for a male but ladies could really benefit from this. Thank God I work with enough good urologists with lots of samples so I guess I have to work a few more years!! Just a thought. That used to be the normal maximum for January when I was young, and it's still only a couple of degrees below normal. To be fair, when I went to get my morning paper at about 8am, though the temperature was only around freezing there was a very strong NE wind, and I felt _much_ colder than I did four or five days ago when we had that sharp frost and it was around -4C. It's a bit nippy in the breeze but "bitterly cold" means losing the feeling in hands and ears after a few minutes walk. No way is it that cold. If you suffered with Raynaud's like me 'Bitterly Cold' could mean anything under 18c :-) -- Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net |
