I've noticed over the last few weeks that my weather station has often
stopped uploading to the internet during the afternoon. When returning home there is nothing obviously wrong with the PC other than WeatherLink 5.6 has locked up (the various windows, bulletin and upload screens) appear bank with the hour glass. I'm beginning to suspect that WU is not uploading properly at 'their' end, hence the upload process is stalled. Sometimes I've noticed that an hour or two goes by and it all starts to update again. I also have the Davis uploads and ARPS which also get suspended too. It is possible that it's the APRS uploads, although it tends to skip if it doesn't connect during the process. Anyone else experiencing the same problem? Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net |

Anyone else experiencing the same problem? Keith (Southend) Keith, you may recall my recent saga over Weatherlink 5.6 occasionally freezing on upload. After much Googling around I discovered a forum dedicated to Mailwasher (which I use). Apparently there is a problem with Mailwasher where you think you've closed it but it's operating in the background causing the PC to run slowly with associated upload problems. Now I make doubly sure it's turned off after using it and the upload problem no longer occurs. Weatherlink upload also stalls from time to time on upload if Bulletin mode is left on. In my experience this has been a 'feature' of various versions of WL across a range of PCs. My experience of WU is that this is generally reliable for upload and when occasional problems do occur it is often the result of the WU software people carrying out an upgrade. Best way to check is if other sites using WU are working. I usually check yours:-). APRS is a bit of a puzzle. I've noticed gaps in the record despite WL uploading fine to my website and to WU. In addition APRS only accepts live data for upload. See what clues Windows Task Manager gives you about processes operating on your PC. I also regularly check File-View-Log on WL to see what is (or not) going on All the best -- George in Epping, West Essex (107m asl) www.eppingweather.co.uk www.winter1947.co.uk |

Keith et al: Are you using the latest version of the WU add-in? We
don't upload to WU here so I can't comment at first hand but I'm aware that this issue has been around in other forums for a bit and some seem to have achieved a fix with the latest WU add-in version. One recent thread is: http://tinyurl.com/8m2v8 NB AIUI you'll need to be running v5.5 or preferably v5.6 of WL. If you're using an older WL version this won't be relevant except in the sense that WU have I think changed the way their servers operate from what was fully compatible with earlier WL versions. Basically I think this is largely caused by the fact that WU write their own add-in to interact with their own servers (ie this is part of the overall add-in philosophy and it's not anything directly to do with the Davis programmers). And it sounds as if a previous add-in version wasn't 100% robust. John Dann www.weatherstations.co.uk |

Thanks John for pointing this out, I wasn't aware there had been an
update. I note one of the changes.. + added 10 second timeout to observation uploads in case WUnderground is unreachable Incidentally, it's not obvious whether this is applicable to WMII installations. I currently also have WeatherLink v5.6 installed. snip New! WeatherLink Weather Underground Expansion Module (necessary for WeatherLink 5.5.1 and higher, click to download) (Help) OLD WeatherLink Weather Underground Expansion Module Only for Weather Monitor II stations (necessary for WeatherLink 5.5.1 and higher, click to download) (Help) snip However, I will try to apply this new .dll file later when I get home as I currently have WU disabled to see if it carry's on running through the day. Many thanks Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net John Dann wrote: Keith et al: Are you using the latest version of the WU add-in? John Dann www.weatherstations.co.uk Installed new module, took a number of attempts and time re-stamps before it uploaded, as it kept stalling halfway through. All the numbers appear to be ok, no corrupt data etc, will just see how it goes, as they say "time will tell". Keith (Southend) http:\\www.southendweather.net |

Seems to be less reliable than ever now!
I reset the time-stamp but then it get halfway through uploading and stalls. I've not yet seen it 'skip' WU after 10 seconds in the 20 to 30 times I've seen it stall. Keith (Southend) http:\\www.southemdweather.net |
