Good morning, everyone.
After the last cold spell, a new low approached Greece from the northwest and turned winds to light SSWlies. That caused an increase in temperature and humidity indices in the west of the country, where it rained a bit, but from Thessaly northwards conditions were quite different. Deep cold air had pooled in the northern plains and that led to more snow and, locally, freezing rain. Quite icy conditions yesterday night for some low lying parts of the north, while western Macedonia and the eastern parts of Thraki were reporting snowfalls today again. Crete, the Peloponnese, the Aegean and eastern continental Greece, having no obstacle to their S/SW, saw temperatures rise quite fast: Athens airport was basking in +12C after the morning frost (-4C) as soon as winds turned SSW, while Irakleio, Crete, being in the lee side of the mountains, made it to +16C while it was snowing further north. Yannis, SE Athens +9.2C, RH 78%, SLP 1011.9 hPa |
