There's still a lot to play for with this low, and sensible precaution is
definitely the wisest option for anyone who has a risk of being affected by
it.
I think my experience with the boxing day storm in 98 puts quite a lot of
fear into my mind in these situations. And I'm sure those who felt the brunt
of the October 87 storm can relate to that. Indeed it may have more
similarities with the latter system - as the 1998 storm was more mature and
predictable in its path and nature I recall. That's definitely not to say it
will contain the same devastating winds as in Oct 87 though!
I also wonder if, with the barometric plunge, there's a chance of blizzards
developing too? Just the merest hint of such a scenario on a recent news 24
forecast.

Nigel - I'm really not the person to ask sorry. My advice would be to watch
this newsgroup or listen out for weather bulletins later this evening. As
Jon and Martin have just written - there's still a lot of if's and but's.

Yes, the BBC national broadcasts, both BBC1 and News24 (if it's a recent
recording..) are the best way to go along with http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/
for warnings. The BBC *national* forecasters have regular conferences with
the Chief Forecaster and thus access to the latest information.

Haven't looked but I'd guess it's the same one they put on the News24
interactive feed. I'm a bit wary of such feeds as it's not obvious how long
ago they were recorded. I'm led to believe (and very much hope it is
correct) that the frequency of live or recently recorded forecasts on News24
will improve this year.
