Thankfully not actually in my property so far.
35 mm of rain here (24hrs) and obviously much, much more just to the west have resulted in the Tay bursting its banks from Loch Tay right down to Dunkeld. The normal beach at the head of the Loch at Kenmore (about 30 foot of sand and shingle) has been submerged and the Loch is right up to the road. The road into Aberfeldy from Weem is submerged as is the golf course, caravan park and most of the valley floor. In parts the floodwater has widened to about 1/4 mile in parts Currently having to detour by 12 miles or so to get into town, and that is going through about 5 or so fords. The Tay is right at the road on the Eastern and Western exits and it would not take much to breach. Quite a few farms are completely surrounded by the water. Unlike the August floods it seems that the Tay is the most affected this time. Our burn has risen by around 1 meter but has receded in the last 4 hours, it was rather angry and noisy at first light. having just cleaned up from August I am somewhat nervy at this time. I am hoping that we get snow tonight brian aberfeldy |
