================================================== ==================

1900

Temp -0.4 deg C
Dewpoint -3 deg C
Day Max +0.6 deg C
Night Min -2.7 deg C
Snow depth 2 cm full cover.
Rainfall equivalent 3.9 mm (suspect far too low, due to snow blowing over the
gauge).

Sledging was in full swing on Hay Tor this afternoon with hordes of people and
convoys of cars going up and down the hill. Snow depth 7 cm above 400m, there
was even some ice scrambling as well on the south west edge of the Tor. Some
snow lying at low levels looking south as Ian H. reported. Snow showers late
afternoon has topped up the snow a bit which has not melted at all during the
day.
Significant well below freezing wind chill on the exposed moor.

So tonight we are looking east with up to 10 cm forecast for Dartmoor.

Will.

This isnt fair !
0.5mm of lying snow this year, for about 5 hours, You would think at 117m
ASL and on the edge of the Pennines I would get more. I even started to
count the number of snow grains that I saw this afternoon, things are
desperate.

Swings and roundabouts comes to mind so it must be our turn next, if not,
its toys out of the pram !

+2.8c at 1940hrs, no snow

S*d all to the east, Will and with little on the radar thus far I'm yet to
be convinced that any significant snow will materialise over our way.

The idyllic West Country. You picked the right decade to move. After a
pleasant summer holiday there and a few others beside now you have the
winters as well. East Anglian weather of my schoolday geography books and
childhood memories has now moved west. I must sort out my extended family
and move down there before the dire cold wet summers of the seventies
return!

Well my experience (2.5 years) has led me to believe the Exeter area is
probably the most benign place on the planet in terms of weather, both in
summer and winter.

Quite so- I wonder where the up to 10cm is coming from? Something
developing in the Channel and flirting with Dartmoor? It is nothing
but clear here in Dorset (when I last looked)

Select the "radar" option, and you'll see a patch of precipitation
possibly heading towards southern England in the easterly flow. It looks
as if it will need to develop considerably if it is to produce anything
very significant, though.

It must be the maritime influence!

Not much better here, down in Plymouth. Although it rains more here, and it
gets a bit windy from time to time. Is that a plus point??

Good job that Dartmoor is on the doorstep.
