Mid afternoon brought a few centimetres in blizzard like conditions for
ten minutes or so - now at approaching 1900 the ground is still predominantly white - and this at sea level - how are you doing Howard and Adrian? Cheers James -- James Brown |

Where are you, James?
No snow here on the ground in Swansea, including up at my level 100m above the city centre. It's been nice to see the snow on top of Exmoor for the last few days, showing white in the sunlight 25 miles away across the channel. Cheers, Steve R. Swansea |

Swansea Yes, It made for some pretty scenery - I'm in Porthcawl - perhaps we got a localised beefy shower? Temperature continuing to drop smartly now with all the snow lying. During the afternoon the showers slowly eased off. The snow on the road then melted. On grass, the snow has remained so we still have the beauty. The temperature has dropped quickly over the last half hour from -0.1C to -3.0C so there is a good chance that overnight showers will settle on the road as well. -- Howard Neil (western end of the Brecon Beacons National Park, at 235 metres asl) |

Felly sgrifennodd James Brown :

Amazingly disappointing. Lots of snow showers, even in Aberystwyth where I was this afternoon. It settled in town for short periods where it had been blown into grass embankments. I returned home through moderate snow at 5:30 to find absolutely nothing lying here. The sun must have melted it all whilst I was away; there was at least a little when I left at 1:00. It's been pretty much dry since then. I'm looking forward to seeing what tomorrow brings though. I think part of the problem is that the ground was never really cold enough, although the air temperature was cold. I have just been out to check on my sheep (the ewes are in a shed getting ready for lambing) and I walked into very heavy snow. The concrete yard had about 2cm of snow on it (snow had previously melted on it) so the road will be well covered as well. I don't think I will be getting any post tomorrow. -- Howard Neil (western end of the Brecon Beacons National Park, at 235 metres asl) |

I too need to add an addendum...

At the time of writing that (ca 21:00) I hadn't looked outside for probably about an hour. That was not sensible. My wife phoned from Aberystwyth to ask on the conditions; it was already starting to settle on the roads there! It turned out that I had to walk down to the village to meet her, and put snow chains on the car to get the last mile and a quarter on minor, untreated roads, back to the house. Snowing at a steady rate, in fairly light wind. I think neither of us will be going to work tomorrow if it keeps it up. More snow showers throughout this evening here on the S Wales coast. Roads and pavements are quite white now. The Meteosat animation shows a direct line of showers from N Wales down to the Swansea-Port Talbot-Porthcawl region, and looks like more to come before the morning. Should be good for photos first thing. Cheers James -- James Brown |
