Default Patricia Hewitt says it, it must be true.

Well I've banged on about this for some time, but here's more proof. The
UKMO in an unprecedented move mage a bold prediction

" Met Office predict a two-in-three chance of a colder-than-average winter
across much of Europe for the period December 2005 to February 2006."
http://www.meto.gov.uk/research/seas.../headline.html

Now in truth I cannot even find the original winter UKMO hype which was
released in September 2005. Has it now disappeared with a less truthful
version of the forecast?

Anyhow UKMO have been got at by the government which is increasingly
characterised as a bunch of liars who are using them as a propaganda tool.
Hence the Australian Mrs Hewitt's outrageous claim on radio five several
weeks ago, that the UK had just experienced the coldest winter for 40
years!!!. Well I've sent several emails to Mrs Hewitt about this issue and
so far have received two replies but as of yet no answer to my question

"Hello I emailed this message below on Friday evening last. I realise you
are busy but it is a simple a simple question

"I heard you on the BBC radio Five drive programme tonight around 5pm. You
were being interviewed by Peter Allen and you said in that interview that
the UK has just come through the coldest winter for forty years.
Did I miss hear that ,or did you actually say forty years?

Thanks
Lawrence Jenkins."

Thanks. I look forward to your honest reply.

Dear Mr Jenkins,

Thank you for your email to Patricia Hewitt regarding comments made on BBC
Radio 5 Live 'Drive' regarding this winter's temperatures.

As yet I have been unable to source a transcript of the programme to
verify if this indeed the Secretary of State did say that this has been the
coldest winter for 40 years, or perhaps one of the coldest. Please advise if
you still require this information confirmed or if you are content to have
your point noted on record.

Thank you for your patience.

Yours sincerely,

Thanks for the reply. Patricia actually said it? on the BBC Radio Five
Drive programme at approx 16:55 pm 31/3/2006. Apparently she's said this
before, so I would like it verified.

Thanks again for your time.

Finally my response

"Clare for christsakes how long will this take? All you have to do is ask
her.
Is she afraid to commit herself publicly for clearly talking nonsense."

Well now Patricia has lowered her misleading claim to decades.

"Mrs Hewitt said: "We have just come through one of the coldest winters for
decades and we haven't had any of the winter bed crises."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4935358.stm

In the meantime my remarks about the UKMO boll%cks of working closely with
Mrs Hewitts dept in issueing weather health warnings still continues to
decieve. I spoke to my next door neigbour a couple of days back. Ron King
who was a prisioner of war taken at Dunkirk and held until the allied
invasion.
Yep he's just spent several weeks in Lewisham hospital where he picked up a
secondary infection, yep MRSA. Where we UKMO when he needed them?

All I've heard all morning is that interview of Ms Hewitt saying "we
have just had the coldest winter in years and the hospitals coped" so
it's ok to sack all the nurses.

Why the BBC or even the MetO let this mis-information be repeated time
and time again I don't know. It devalues all the work and science
what's involved.

The original headline 'hype', captured at the time, was -

"The Met Office has predicted a two in three chance of a
colder-than-average winter for much of Europe, and that if Europe were
to experience below-average temperatures, parts of the UK - especially
southern regions - would also be affected. There was also an indication
for a drier-than-average winter over much of the UK."

Dramatic and over the top, eh ?

I don't think that being "thick" is the issue. It's the lack of integrity
that I loathe. The willingness at the drop of a political well pensioned hat
to distort the truth.
Are you really telling me that Paticia Hewitt is thick, that she didn't
check with her researchers?
Any british government that resides in power manages the UKMO, they are
civil servants, thefore it's naivity at its worse to assume that Hewitt
didn't or could not get the facts straight from UKMO

Even though this could be construed as me over reacting to Hewitt's weather
lies. It is typical of a government that is constantly guided by an army of
advisors and spin doctors. Remember the email that was exposed by the media,
when Jo Moore wrote to Steven Byer's immediatley after 9/11 advising
"its a good day to bury bad news".

I don't know about you but I would be ashamed to make statements like
Hewitt. In fact I would be compelled to rectify my mistake if it had been a
mistake. This was no thick mistake, it was a deliberate attempt to rewrite
winter 2005/6 and that in my book is lies, Maybe some people do not read the
same books as me.
