[WR] Snow in northern Greece

Good morning everyone.

It started to snow in many areas of northern Greece during the night,
including areas at sea level, like Thessaloniki. However, snow should
gradually restrict itself to higher grounds, as the the low's warm
sector should affect these areas too. Overnight temperature minima
have been below freezing level in much of continental Greece.
Weather should remain changeable during the following days -no wonder
if one checks the forecast charts- with rain, thunderstorms and snow
over both high and low grounds in the northwest.

And a picture from the semi-frozen Aoos lake yesterday:

All the best for a wonderful day and week,

Good morning Yannis and everyone

As i flew back yesterday from Athens to Brussels almost whole of Europe
covered in snow:). Sunny over the Balkans - snowy Greek mountains; further
north also the valleys were white. Unfortunately cloudy Alps;(. But the
parts of Germany I've spotted were brightly white.

Woke up in a snowy world this morning -sunny; Tc ms. 1.2 - N 3.
Hey, is this winter?

Athens was wonderful as ever - where blue's another color:))

Hi Wijke,

That's because the Alps are receiving a fair bit of snow all the way to
sea level. LFMN (Nice Airport) even has the possibility of TSSN (snow with
thunder) in its TAF as the cold front passes S towards N Africa. Notice N.
Africa submerged in sub 528dm air. 30cm has been reported since midnight
in parts of Switzerland at 1000m asl and Les Arcs, French Alps at 1850m

Thanks, Joe! Good news for the French ski-resorts as some of them were about
to close last week!!

[WR] Snow in northern Greece

The warm front is making its way northeastwards and has caused temperatures
to rise significantly throughout much of the country. Luckily, though, the
country is mountainous and warm air has a hard time occupying the whole
country. 25 cm in Florina (NW Greece) and still snowing heavily. A totally
different picture in Athens, ofcourse.
