May is my favourite month, but the weather has conspired to ruin it :-(
Yes I'm in a foul mood this morning! :-) If I hear any more words about drought on the TV or radio I'll throw a brick at it. Cheer up Will the sun will be out later this afternoon, at least, in between heavy showers! 11.0mm so far from this event - current rate 3.2mm/hr 78.2mm so far this month (115% eLTA)...standing water now on the back lawn. Regards, Richard. Dartington, South Hams. |

Hmmm maybe. This is warm sector and it is raining at 3-6 mm/h, well this is
Dartmoor after all I suppose! Now (1140) 15.5 mm for event and rate 3.3 mm/h. Temp 10.4 deg C. At least we rarely get standing water here as the soil is well drained and on a slope so it just runs away once saturated. Occasionally in really heavy rain, it will pool on the drive. What's depressing me is that it is so gloomy, lights are on in my study, it might as well be the middle of December rather than the end of May :-( May is normally our driest month at just 86 mm. Yes, people in the south should stop moaning and just have to accept that they will have to pay more if the want to secure supplies of this valuable resource. I'm looking forward to when they build the national water grid. My water company will sell the stuff down south, thus reducing my water bills ![]() A wretched weekend so far and today looks like being another washout. Pretty cold last night though, a min of just 2.8C. Col -- Bolton, Lancashire. 160m asl. |

Here in the SW we have the most expensive water in the country (England) yet the bloomin stuff comes out of the sky in torrents. Seems as far as water is concerned the laws of economics don't apply. To my mind the SE should have the most expensive water as it is a rarer commodity there. Yes I know we are paying for infrastrusture, sewerage and ensuring that the beaches are clean for holidaymakers in the summer, but on this horrendous rainy day in May I will have paid the equivalent of a pint of beer water rate for the privilege of watching it fall out of the sky. 1230 and now 17.3 mm for the event and still heaving down at 3.3 mm / hour. Bar 991.8 hPa and falling quickly. Wind strengthening from the SSE. Well I did say I was in a bad mood :-) Will. -- " You cannot count your life a success unless you can find one person who says that they are happier because you were born " ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A COL BH site in East Dartmoor at Haytor, Devon 310m asl (1017 feet). mailto: www: http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm DISCLAIMER - All views and opinions expressed by myself are personal and do not necessarily represent those of my employer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Apparently a brick placed carefully in your toilet cistern will mean less water used when flushing, thus alleviating the wastage of water during this awful drought. |

Will. -- Been fairly sunny in the far SW since 10:00 - Typically sunny cyclonic conditions once the front cleared. Beaches in St Ives which face away from the fresh SSW wind are quite busy. High tide so good for swimming (in a wetsuit!) in the harbours. Lunch in T Shirt & Shorts outside the Porthminster Beach Restaurant. I might get around to uploading a few jpegs later. Still, you don't live on Dartmoor unless you enjoy mist & rain. Graham Penzance |

Still we had a minutes burst of sunshine a few minutes ago at 1500 and the rain has stopped after 17.8 mm but it's still OVC and the shower clouds are building. Temp. now rocketed up to 11.0 degC.
