Brussels offline again
My PC at home has failed again. I think it may have breathed its last.
I will probably be offline and unable to post in the evenings for the next few days at least. Posting this from work whilst on night duty for the EU summit and hoping the night will not be too long ... Colin Youngs Brussels |

Hi Colin
Hope your PC is on the mend. Spending the weekend in Brussels this week - any forecast would be great? wrote in message oups.com... My PC at home has failed again. Could the processor be overheating in the recent hot weather (which I assume Brussels has also experienced)? If so, then when the weather is cooler again the machine may be fine (though obviously a failure whenever it's hot is tedious, so a replacement for the chip and/or fan might be a good idea). -- John Hall "Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened." My last computer had overheating problems so this one has a 120mm heat sink on the back of the processor, plus the case is big enough to NOT have the processor hidden behind the power supply. Btw, I maybe updating erratically next week as my main computer will be out of action while I send the memory sticks back to crutial before they post me new ones. It's a long story, but memtest86 showed over 4000 error on an overnight run! Hence blue screen crashes, failing modules and general glitches. Hopefully this will sort things out :-) -- Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net e-mail: kreh at southendweather dot net |

Thanks for your comment, John, but I think the problem is simply its age. The startup files are corrupted and I will need the help of a computer technician to try and salvage my e-mails, e-mail address book and bookmarks. I have not made progress with getting my new PC linked up yet because I came back from a 10-day holiday in Spain just a couple of days ago. Catching up on the NG during lunch break at work via Google Groups. Colin Youngs Brussels |

Surfer! a écrit : You might find that all you need to do is find a friend who can temporarily mount your hard drive as a slave in their PC. Thanks for that suggestion. I'll bear it in mind. Expecting the worst, I had rescued everything from the old failing PC except the e-mails and address book. Colin Youngs Brussels |
