The first day on which the air was warmer than me
....or else, the first heatwave day for Athens this summer. Temperatures
may have not had the chance to climb higher than +35.2C in my parts of the city, but downtown it was a different story as the air was feeling simply too hot, especially in well sunlit narrow streets. Nea Filadelfia, just NW of the city centre, made it to +38C while suburbs by the sea never exceeded +32C. Several stations in Thessaly crossed the +37C threshold, too. Drama, in eastern Macedonia, reported a drop in temperature by 17 Centigrades when calm, hot conditions gave place to a thunderstorm that had just crossed the bulgarian border. Thunderstorms were reported later throughout much of central and eastern Macedonia (they are now situated over the northern Aegean), as well as in Volos (eastern Thessaly) and the Peloponnesian highlands. Temperature maxima for today to be viewed he http://www.e-kairos.gr/jun19.jpg All the best for now, Yannis, SE Athens +28.6C, RH 36%, SLP 1015.4 hPa |

Forgive me (or *us*, if i can have this liberty to add) that we're only responding when a visit to Greece is near; BUT is this heatwave-in-potention still going on next Thursday and the weekend after? Too not narrow streets downtown :(( - lots of water added to the frappe's then! We'll meet soon! Wijke from a sunny, 3/8 cumuli, typical dutch-summery Centre of the Netherlands. Comfortable 22°C |

Temperature maxima should remain close to 36C while you'll be in Athens, but ever-breezy Andros should be cooler (maxima around 30C). Yesterday's thunderstorms visited western Attica, too, but not until late at night. The spectacle in the western horizon from downtown Athens can be viewed he http://dias.aueb.gr/~nnoe/KATAIGIDES...AYNOI/lala.wmv (video prepared by George Gournelos, mind your speakers' volume before opening). Up to +35.9C in my neighbourhood today, +38C recorded in Elefsina, western Attica. Atb, Yannis, SE Athens +33.6C, RH 36%, SLP 1012.2 hPa |
