I've always perspired heavily, even when I was comparatively slim
and fit. Another one, slightly more famous(!), is Marcus Trescothick -
sometimes when he removes his helmet on a hot day you see the
perspiration literally pour out.

When I was a kid we didn't wear hats or used sun cream. I don't recall
anybody ever getting burnt in the schoolplayground. I mean, you would
only be out for a hour or so at the longest.

I sort of understand the thinking because the school does have a duty of
care. However, when I suggested that they just make sure that the sun
tan cream is on, they wear hats and drink plenty, I was told that they
aren't permitted to help the kids put on sun tan cream - Something to do
with litigation again.

Yup, touch a child and you're a paedophile.

This year if a parent wants the school to apply sun cream they have to
give permission in writing. Even then they will only apply to face, neck
and arms, the children have to do their own legs. Two adults have to be
present and sun cream supplied by the parents (allergies, not only to
nuts but lanolin). Children applying cream themselves will still be
supervised.


What a ridiculous performance to have to go through for something as
simple as applying sun cream!

A list did appear at work from the Health centre and included the item
that on any Field trip every child was to have a wide brimmed hat
on..

Conkers too are out. I work with someone who once,at a meeting, asked
forgiveness for a (lazy) pupil because he was suffering from an
in-growing toenail. And there is another who spends a great deal of
time explaining away pupil issues..I got a filthy look when I got fed
up with this and suggested that the person would one day blame
Nelson's 3rd eye operation and the trauma on the pupils great great
etc grandmother.

Why on earth have daisy chains been banned?
It's coming to the point now that no child is ever to blame or held
responsible for their behaviour. It's always someone else's fault,
or poverty, or their environment, or television, or just society in
general. Sometimes kids, just like adults are simply not very nice
people. But this is a rant best left to postings on other newsgroups
as it's getting ridiculously off topic now :)

As for the weather, well another crack at making the elusive 30C today.
'Only' made 27.7C yesterday and there's not many times I have said that!
Currently 18.7C.

An hour in the middle of the day at this time of the year is quite long
enough to burn fair skin, and childhood sunburn pre-disposes to skin
cancer later in life.
