New July record (obviously - as the previous UK July record was 35.9°C - not the 36.0°C quoted by the Met Office - see my earlier post on this topic) Third-hottest day since my local records commenced in 1917 - the only days 35.0°C or more being - 35.0°C - 19 Aug 1932 35.0°C - 27 June 1976 36.5°C - 3 Aug 1990 36.4°C - 10 Aug 2003 36.0°C - today's max Reading University AWS max 35.5°C. Reading's previous July highest was 35.0°C on 12 July 1923, at the more sheltered old town-centre site. Stephen Burt Stratfield Mortimer, Berkshire |
