I wouldn't normally stoop to this level but I have to report that I just sat
outside reading the newspaper in warm sunshine. No top coat, just a single
pullover.

If this were March, I would be describing it as "the first day of spring",
but it is after all, still January.

.... make the most of it Jack: although I'm not sure about the 'easterly'
that everyone keeps on about, the 'north or northwesterly' being flagged
for the end of the week looks pretty good and will 'correct' the
temperatures quite well!
I keep thinking I'm going to have to dig out the mower - but am putting
it off, though not for too much longer otherwise I won't be able to get
onto it.

Martin.

I took a walk to the newsagents at lunchtime and was thinking 'spring' as
well...

had my daily bike-tour! Oh no, not for fun - but to keep up the apperance of
good shape

Can't you send some sunshine into our gloom??

There were ladybirds out foraging in our garden yesterday. And I suspect
at least one pair of starlings here have started building a nest!

Lots of stuff is in bud - almost got daffodils out too. A sharp cold
snap now will cause a lot of damage. And this is in North Yorkshire.

Regards,
Martin Brown

Yep - they're just starting to build their annual nest in my eaves!

There was a cloud of midges over the concrete drive this morning.

We have crocuses and daffodils open, and a rosebud from last year still
struggling to open.

We are in double-figure temperatures here today (just) although the
drizzle does away with the newspaper plan (-:
We already have the NW wind (referred to by Martin R elsewhere in this
thread) but it is a warm one at the moment.

I have just been up the road to view our local Waxwing flock in very
pleasant conditions allthough the cloud has now rolled in. It certainly made
taking photographs much easier.

Maximum temperature today 10.4°C.

I have to say this very quietly so as not to upset the bird lovers.

Our 6 month old cat made her first kill some ten days ago - two nestling
Robins.
Now that is very early to be nesting.

And keep a look out for that other sign that spring is on its way - the
first squashed hedgehog!
(Sorry, shouldn't have said that)

Jack
