It does concern me how the English language is being butchered

This will probably sound pedantic, but here goes

"i was sat outside"

should be

"i was sitting outside"

Just a general comment that lots of people seem to use "sat" instead of
"sitting" these days

That is not pedantic enough. Jack did not say "i was sat outside"; he
said "I just sat
outside". Please note, in addition, that he correctly used a capital "I".

Indeed - and it just goes to show the importance of *quoting properly* from
the post being referred to in the reply.

To the pedant who corrected me, quite right too Sir.
I hate the butchering of the English language so yes, hands in the air:
"I done it wrong, like, know what I mean?"

[I was in fact using "just" in the sense of "recently". So I should have
said "I recently sat outside..."]

Incidentally I just sat down on my bottom to write this note.

Jack

Before this posting goes completely off the subject( a frequent occurence

you would say where you live ! Thank you.

I wouldn't normally stoop to this level but I have to report that I just sat
outside reading the newspaper in warm sunshine. No top coat, just a single
pullover.

If this were March, I would be describing it as "the first day of spring",
but it is after all, still January.

Jack (in South Cambridgeshire)

Well at 8.6 deg C we had our warmest day here for 8 days. A bit of sun this
morning but wind was NW 20 knots gusting 36 knots this afternoon with low cloud
and drizzle. Wind is still howling round our house now at 1900. Spring does not
normally arrive until end of March/April up here - but it is worth the wait as
at least we can then sit out in proper warm sunshine and enjoy the daffodils and
other Spring flowers without them being over.

Will.

According to my Longman's dictionary. To say "i was sat outside" is
correct, as "sat" is the past participle of sit, and is a verb. While
"sitting" is a noun where is it use to describe a period when you are
sitting in a chair"

E.g I sat down and read the whole book in one sitting.

Though of course the English language is a flexible language, and people
of different dialects, use the language in slightly different ways. As
long as what you say, is broadly understood, then IMHO I cannot see
where the problem is.
