From Miami - latest (15Z) .....
HOWEVER...IN THE PAST HOUR OR TWO THE EYE APPEARS TO HAVE BECOME BETTER DEFINED. AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO INVESTIGATE THE SYSTEM AROUND 1800 UTC TODAY AND SHOULD PROVIDE A BETTER ASSESSMENT OF THE INTENSITY. CIRRUS OUTFLOW IS WELL DEFINED EXCEPT TO THE EAST...AND FLORENCE WILL BE TRAVERSING SSTS 28 DEGREES CELSIUS OR HIGHER FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS. STRENGTHENING IS THEREFORE FORECAST AND FLORENCE COULD BE A STRONG CATEGORY 2 HURRICANE WHEN IT IS NEAR BERMUDA. AFTERWARDS...INCREASING SOUTHWESTERLY SHEAR AND COOLER SSTS SHOULD IMPART A GRADUAL WEAKENING. HOWEVER... FLORENCE IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN A VERY LARGE AND POWERFUL CYCLONE ONCE IT UNDERGOES EXTRATROPICAL TRANSITION IN ABOUT 72 HOURS. and Kindley Field beginning to feel the 'outer' effects of the approaching storm. (and no doubt it will have an impact on our weather in a few days time - despite the forecaster trying to hide it behind his shoulder at lunchtime!) I thought that when I saw it's projected track offshore and up towards Newfoundland. I don't blame the forecaster trying to hide it, can you imagine the media hype if the news of an approaching hurricane(*) got out? (*) Even though it'll be no more than a rather warm and wet atlantic depression by the time it gets here... -- Cheers Dave. pam is missing e-mail |

we were in Bermuda in 1975 when a hurricane nearly hit
Everyone battened down , water got in etc etc . Very windy as you would expect . Would you believe the local tv station forgot to tell islanders when the hurricane actually missed the island M "Colin Youngs" wrote in message ... Seems to be passing now http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/TXKF.html Colin Youngs Brussels |
