Very heavy rain here since 1715z with thunder/lightning 1740-1750z.
5-minute rainfall totals a 1700z Nil 1705z Nil 1710z 0.3 mm 1715z Nil 1720z 0.5 mm 1725z 1.5 mm 1730z 2.5 mm 1735z 2.5 mm 1740z 1.0 mm 1745z 2.0 mm 1750z 1.0 mm 1755z 0.3 mm 1800z Nil Max rate between bucket tips was 75 mm/hour. Local roads are badly flooded and traffic disrupted. Over the past year we have had many severe weather warnings for conditions that didn't happen. Now we have probably the most disruptive weather around here in the past year but there's no severe weather warning this time. Ah! - The joys of weather forecasting :-) Moderate rain continues at 1820z. Norman. (delete "thisbit" twice to e-mail) -- Norman Lynagh Weather Consultancy Chalfont St Giles 85m a.s.l. England |

(delete "thisbit" twice to e-mail) Norman that looks as though my forecast has gone for a Burton as soon as it has been issued. Deep Joy. Cheers Paul 'Wisest are they that know they do not know.' In Maidenhead 27.3mm fell in two bursts.
The first around 1630BST gave approx 8mm while the remainder fell in a 'tropical downpour' around 1800BST. The A4 in west Maidenhead was awash and the fire brigade were called out to remove the larger ponds on it, according to my daughter. Lots of aqua-planing seen. This is our second day with 25mm+ in the space of three weeks - unusual for this part of the Thames Valley. Over the same period I had a total of 4mm of rain with a amximum rate of 18mm of hour so the very heavy rain missed me. I must be only 10 miles awy to the NE. I had another 3mm between 1600 and 1645 BST giving a total of 7mm for the day. This just demonstrates the flaws in the severe weather warning system as if one was issued for this event it would probably covered both our locations due to the broad scale used. Alan Gardiner Chiswell Green, St Albans 101m ASL There was a severe weather warning issued eventually for Buckinghamshire but only after the event was over here. I'm not sure whether or not there was one issued for Hertfordshire. Norman. (delete "thisbit" twice to e-mail) -- Norman Lynagh Weather Consultancy Chalfont St Giles 85m a.s.l. England |
