![]() "Alan Gardiner" wrote in message ... Agreed! Can't wait to start burning my logs either. Heating still not on as the house is maintaining a comfortable 15-16C without it in the mild conditions. Will. -- I would need to install an air conditioning unit to keep temperatures inside as low as that at present. It's 14C outside at present and the maximum for the last few days has been around 17 to 18C so inside it is getting up to 20C easily. It must be quite cool in Haytor. Alan Alan, it's always cool in Haytor! Last summer my inside temperature rarely got above 22C and most of the time it was around 20C. That's one reason I wanted to live high up as I hate heat. Heating still not on as the house is maintaining a comfortable 15-16C without it in the mild conditions. 15-16C would be too cold for me however my heating has hardly been this autumn so far. I'm still in shorts for heaven's sake, well if you count those three-quarter length pants as shorts ![]() -- LOL do you have knobbly knees like me? :-) You're doing better than I as I gave up shorts last month. ![]() "Nick G" wrote in message ... About the same as here - just put in 270mm of insulation in the new extension roofspace so it'll be nice and cosy all winter! I've just finished fitting the recommended 270 mm thickness of insulation in my loft, plus I have 170 mm of insulation under the floors (a summer long arduous job), and had cavity-wall insulation done last month, plus with the permissive-E double glazing throughout I am now astonished at how warm the house is. The thermostat is set to switch on the heating if the temperature in the hall (coldest part of the house) goes below 22C, so far this autumn the lowest temperature in the house has been 23C so the heating has yet to come on. In the evening the lounge easily heats up 26C due to the warmth given off by the TV and ourselves. If it has been a sunny day then we have to open quite a few windows because it does get too hot, even at this time of year. I have to sleep with the window open in the bedroom because it gets too hot in the room as the night progresses. _______________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 80 m amsl Great stuff Nick and well done! Be careful you don't make your house too stuffy though as that can be unhealthy. We sleep with the bedroom window open all year, even in snow. We shut it when the wind is strong though as the inside doors rattle and keep us awake. Bedroom temperature is usually circa 10C in winter and around 15C in summer which is just right for a good night's sleep. Mind you we have a lot of other windows open usually, partly because we are a bit over the threshold for a safe amount of radon gas and so we need to ventilate as much as we can. I presume you are radon free? Will. -- |

Although I must admit the 20°c + I'm used to does have it's draw backs. -- Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net e-mail: kreh at southendweather dot net |
