Does any kind soul have a set of monthly data for somewhere in NE Scotland for
2004 that they would be willing to let me have ? I need monthly mean min and mean max temps, and monthly rainfall, for the full year. My own data only covers the 7 months from June, but with a full set from somewhere nearby, I could estimate the other 5 months and so get an estimate of the annual mean. -- Gianna |

They provided me (for free!) with monthly rainfall averages for around a 10 sites within 20 miles of Penzance. Whenever there's a noteworthy local weather event, they have been very helpful in suplying data. Enjoy your surfing. Graham Penzance |

The sea is a bit rough but I am not sure surfing is a good idea at the moment (-: -- Gianna |

Maybe:
1 )SEPA, Scottish environmental Protection Agency? 2) the BADC archive. http://badc.nerc.ac.uk/home/ You need permission to access that, they do have data for Aberdeen daily for rain and temps. (maybe another station closer too). I might be able to help out on the BADC data. Dorian. Would Braemar or Leuchars be any good? Though Leuchars isn't quite in NE Scotland, its coastal location would probably make it a better match to you than Braemar would be. http://www.meto.gov.uk/climate/uk/st...ucharsdata.txt http://www.meto.gov.uk/climate/uk/st...raemardata.txt -- John Hall "Whenever people agree with me I always feel I must be wrong." ![]() Paul Hyett wrote: Am I right in thinking that Braemar is the coldest inhabited place in Britain? Hi, Paul, I think that Braemar is generally accepted as being the coldest. Doubtless there are some higher spots that are slightly colder on average, but the fact that it is quite high and also a frost hollow site with the British low temperature record probably clinches it. During a recent visit I noticed that the met site had been moved from the village centre to a spot beside the main A93 road (to Aboyne - note your recent post!) at River Dee level which looked even more of a frost pocket than the previous site! I think this move took place during August 2005. Ken Copley, 253metres asl, nr Barnard Castle, Teesdale, County Durham http://copley.mysite.orange.co.uk |

I had already used MO data from Braemar station, and in the absence of anything more local will accept that, adjusted to the mean variance. The results not only appear a good fit, but represent my memory of that period quite well without any 'manual' tweaking. Meanwhile, the weather: The winds did pick up late last evening with some quite worrying gusts. It began to subside by the early hours, and no harm done in these parts. -- Gianna |

I think that Braemar is generally accepted as being the coldest. Are you sure? For many years the Sunday Times listed the UK's warmest and coldest places each week, and one name appeared as coldest more times than all the others combined, and that was Altnaharra. |
