[WR]Copley first snow lying
Hi, All,
Only 1cm but 50% cover at the Met O site. 50% down at the Lead Mill. The main problem this morning is ice as the heavy snow showers around 04Z - 06Z partially melted and re-froze. The gritters seem to have been caught out by this one - roads are quite slippy with lying snow in parts. Heavy showers with sudden gusts came in around 04Z suddenly (same as the night before) after clear, calm, frosty conditions with screen down to -2.9C at both sites. I too was caught out as the rain gauge heater was not switched on and the gauge is full of ice! Obviously nothing on the graph for the event but melting rapidly now with the heater. 7.1mm in the manual gauge. About what we have difficult to tell as it must have come down as big flakes as it's very bumpy 1cm at the tops of the bumps and ice underneath. The main problem this morning is ice as the heavy snow showers around 04Z - 06Z partially melted and re-froze. That may have happened up here as well, lot's of ice on the wind ward windows at 0730 before the sun got at it. And looking at the lying stuff it appears to have ice underneath it. -- Cheers Dave. Copley first snow lying
Woke up in Callaly at 06:00 to a dusting, went out to the car for the
camera at about 8 and couldn't get in as what had obviously been very damp snow had frozen hard ! Took me about 5 mins of heaving and blowing on the stuff - didn't have anything to scrape it off - to get in, and then found that all my NiFe cells were so cold they wouldn't run the camera until I'd warmed them on a radiator ! Most of it had thawed away by 10 when we went out for a walk though there was still some on the tops... Will do a small web page in the coming days and advise... Nick now home in a very wet and windy Northallerton |
