The fog in West Sussex (?) looks almost fractal in its shape -
presumably picking out valleys?

Excellent.
Couldn't you find one that goes a few miles further North so I can wave at
myself?
Love those power station plumes.

Fascinating image, thanks for the pointers!

Looks like a very nice day in most of France.

An even better image from the Aqua satellite, with the UK slap bang in
the middle. This time I notice some rippling in the fog bank around
the Malverns, creating a sort of semi-circular pattern, like waves
passing through a slit.

Try the AQUA-MODIS
http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/r...php?A063541300 - it was
imaged at 1300 rather than 11:15 - with some interesting differences...

Yes, and it's a good thing we have them, wind farms wouldn't be very
effective at the moment.

.... interesting to note the large area *without* fog as well - it's a
cruel irony that the districts with thick fog happen to coincide with
some of our busiest civil airports! Couldn't have happened at a worse
time.

Martin.
