Cold front came through at 0150 giving a gust of 36 knots at 3m agl.
Estimated mean and gust at 10m agl was SSW 25 knots gust 48 knots. This one pressed in on the window glass but soon passed. Total rainfall for event (since 0200 on 29th) was a whopping 91.1 mm. No sudden temperature drop at front or rain increase, just a gusty period and that was it. 0910 Next system is already evident as cloud is increasing. Temp 8.7 deg C so still very mild. It's always amazing how much rain the SW gets compared to the SE. A friend in Tavistock recorded 62 mm and he is on low ground! Already the rain is showing very heavy on the radar just off Cornwall and we have a few light showers as a forerunner. Cloud is increasing rapidly now, and I'm bracing myself for the onslaught again :-) Will. -- |

Cornwall, often the case in these conditions. (We can get some very large rainfall totals with an unstable NNW giving heavy showers streaming down in a line from the Irish sea, when Devon & E. Cornwall are completely dry.) Windier though, gusts 60mph at some exposed spots yesterday, 48mph here. The brightest rainfall echos are east of Penzance now, and they seemed to have overstated the rain somewhat, (another 4.5mm so far) possibly because the drops were very large at times. Graham Penzance Can confirm an earlier shower with very large drops here too Graham. Now at 1215 radar looks *very* threatening for Dartmoor. Sky looks threatening too. We shall see. Light rain for present though, temp. a very mild 9.8 deg C. Will. -- |
