I guess a spell of severe wintery weather would give everyone a boost
who
loves that sort of thing. It's bound to happen again one day. God
knows when
though as the 'bound to happen' phrase has been said by southerners
for
years now

Don't you agree with me that, on the top of all this, the simple most
annoying thing in the world is botched winter forecasts such as 2002,
2005, pictures of polar bears before Big Ben(!), etc., etc., etc..

England 0 - 0 Holland, by the way. Both teams played exceptionally
badly, and the time to oust Eriksson is upon us.

I agree it is annoying when a forecast of cold and snow fails to materialise
and I agree about the polar bears/bigben thing, ive never made any secret of
the fact I hate those headlines.
It's not the forecasts or forecasters that annoy me though, it's just the
sh*t weather.
I guess the moral is to expect nothing and then you will never be
dissapointed. Either that or move to Canada :-p

As for the football, it was rubbish and all the talk of how wright Phillips
should play in place of Beckham and yet he misses to gilt edged chances in
the first half. Good to see Sven kept with his record of weird
substitutions. Why bring those two on at the end? Only a friendly I guess

To me, forecasting a winter like 2002 TO SMALL CHILDREN, and then NOT
even REMOTELY bothering to apologise when it all goes truly belly-up,
is more than enough to drive a sane, competent, amicable, social person
like me to the end of his tether.

Everything was fine on the forum. I was getting on well with both
admins and general users. Then I decided to make a run for an apology,
and, some fifteen minutes later, I was banned!:-o :-(

I guess the moral is to expect nothing and then you will never be
dissapointed.

If only I had any idea that the winter 2002 forecasts were issued by
fresh-faced young men, based on university textbooks and unproved, more
fringeline theories. If only....:-(

Beckham is a tired has-been anyway, and he should go while he has a
shred of dignity left.

Yep.

This sort of thing is a risky business. I recall Hoddle playing by the
same card in Euro 96, and that ended in disaster, likewise!:-o :-(

but I will say that he is always the first to hold his hand up and admit he
got it wrong, when a forecast goes tits up.

Let me just say that, as is now, hopefully, anyway, widely known, I
have made PEACE with Brian Gaze via e-mail over those events now.
However, that said, I will say this, anyway:
1. There was NO apology - certainly there was nothing direct - on the
front page of The Weather Outlook website anytime AFTER that 2002
winter, and, till this day, there has not been one PUBLIC message of
direct apology for that winter. HOWEVER, I say again, I HAVE
straightened this out now with Brian via e-mail, and we have - I hope!
- a mutual understanding for each other.
2. In the winter of 2002, Brian - AND OTHERS(!) - kept on saying that
"it will come cold next week" and "it will come cold next week", only
for NOTHING to EVER happen!:-( :-( At least NOW, the kettle of fish is
very much different.:-)
3. I know NOW what I did NOT KNOW before, and, although this does not
*really* apply to Brian or The Weather Outlook, my awareness was that
the 2002 winter forecasts were really the EXPERT VERIFICATION of MY
DREAMS(!) once again about to come true. This was as, obviously quite
starkly, opposed to a set of exceptionally poorly-organised forecasts
by the likes of Tom "campus kid" Presutti and Gavin "I truly believed"
Partridge, not to mention badger "I forecast cold weather EVERY
winter", and the less said about Gary Sarre, the better.:-(

I am not the guy that I have been demonised as. Nor is Matty H, as, I
can see from here, you, like the other admins on TWO who I am in touch
with, are sensible, rational, decent-minded people, who do a good job.

I hope that one day the negotiations as to my return to The Weather
Outlook discussion forums can begin. It was allowed with Codge, except
that I, contrary to the incessant lies of Justin Williams', am most
certainly NOT Codge. Furthermore, as late last year has proved, not to
mention *some* of my posts on this particular forum now, I am also
indeed capable of engaging in sensible, rational, logical, coherent,
decent-minded weather and climatological discussion.

The thing is, there are many people out there doing forecasts. You have the
respected ones, the likes of Brian Gaze, Andrew Bond, the Met Office, who
all do a long range forecast.

You have respected short to mid range forecasters such as Will Hand, Paul
Bartlett to name but two and I personally think expecting apologies off
anyone for a forecast based on their own opinions through model
interpretations, is asking a bit much. An acknowledgement of error yes, but
not an apology.
The MetO would be aplogising on a weekly basis if their countryfile forecast
were taken as gospel :)

winter of 2005 - this current one - off in February, 2004!:-o

This would suffice, but, and again I am sorry if he is reading this,
this did not happen on The Weather Outlook after the "winter" of 2002,
although Tom Presutti and Gavin Partridge *did*, I recall, emit *some*
kind of "acknowledgement of error" on the website forum. However, I can
never recall this appearing on certainly Tom Presutti's website.:-o :-(
Tom says that he has issued BOTH "an acknowledgement of error" AND an
apology, and I now, KINDLY, of course:-), call on him to help me to
verify this, but so far there is no sign of him and his co-operation.
Gavin though remains as stubborn as a mule about absolutely
everything.:-(

with the eventual, poignant reality:
-the mildest winter since 1998!:-o :-(
