Tons expected in the Alps next few days. Probably too much LOL.
Snowy charts in Britain too, especially in west and north, but promises for the SE too. Interesting few days ahead. High still showing signs of toppling but UKMO reluctant and in any event cold air hangs on at low levels in the south and east. Temperature here in Haytor is now +6.3 deg C at 0845 and I fully expect that to continue to fall during the day with the first wintry stuff this afternoon in heavy showers. I'll try and ensure the webcam stays running :-) Western sky darkening ominously already. Excited cheers, Will. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A COL BH site in East Dartmoor at Haytor, Devon 310m asl (1017 feet). mailto: www: http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm DISCLAIMER - All views and opinions expressed by myself are personal and do not necessarily represent those of my employer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Will, In the past I would have been really excited looking at the progs over the next few days. The 528dm line is well clear of the S coast - there's a small low coming down on Monday - all showing some nice snowy potential. However, with the sea temp at 10-12c atm, I'm just not expecting much more than sleet or if I'm lucky wet snow (certainly no settling) - even here in Guildford. Perhaps its because of the GW stuff and that we are running 4c above the norm - Just hope I'm wrong - but I shall definately not be getting the sledge of of the attic just yet - that in the past has been a sure sign of nothing even at H+24! Phil Ah but Phil, higher sea temps. means more powerful and deeper convection hence the potential for greater inland penetration and lowering of wet-bulb freezing levels etc. I agree rain/hail is possible *on* the coast but inland, showers will turn readily to snow and if/when the -10C air at 850 HPa comes down, expect the snow to settle at low elevations. Exposed hills (above 200m asl) could get some good coverings. I understand your scepticism, it's been so warm, the next few days will be a shock! My daughter will be thrilled - she is a snowyphile and has been in the Swiss/French Alps (Morzine) all of last week with no snow and comes home from her first ski trip on Monday!! I am like Phil, a bit concerned about settling snow. I don't know how the dynamics work at the interface between wet soil 8-10C and air temp of +1C but I know the stuff wouldn't settle in these condition two years ago even in heavy showers, although I believe that was the end of Feb/start of March. Thanks for the encouragement anyway! Dave |

It can happen quickly. Will. -- |

Just after 2pm it went VERY dark, followed by thunder, lightning and torrential rain which continued until I was leaving school at 3:30 when it turned to snow. By bedtime we had about 6 inches and more than a foot the next morning. This was Sittingbourne, in North Kent. |

'Tons expected in the Alps next few days. Probably too much LOL.'
Hi Will, How much do you think we will get?? We certainly need it!! The max temp yesterday was 10 oC- unheard of here!! We didn't get that temp form November to beginning of April last year. It rained all yesterday and all the snow has mainly gone in the village- although our guests have gone skiing today and said it was fine!! But the slopes could do with more- what a difference a year makes this time last year we had about a meter of snow!! It does make a change not have to shovel the snow !
