Looking at the charts for the weekend it not only looks very warm but
with pressure falling both over the uk and france it could be that thunder storms develope. Now should this be summer it would be extensive but I am not sure at this time of the year. Simon (South Yorkshire) |

They are coming.
Using the good ol' fashioned technique of sniffing the air. I could smell the moisture last night, as the humidity increases Today, hazy, with some cloud buildup. A very summer feel Lots of red, orange, purple crosses, indicating plenty of lightning activity across Portugal and North-West Spain. Just need a push northwards - North-North East |

From "The English Climate" by C E P Brookes (pub 1954): "The third week of April is often bright and sunny, but also showery, and this week may be said to mark the opening of the thunderstorm season in Britain." When I read first this book in 1964 (though probably not the same edition) I thought it said that April was the first month when the UK could expect to be affected by storms moving north from France. I came to a similar conclusion based on observation, but I had it placed as first week of May. Just checked the number of thunderstorms (all thunderstorms, not just ones moving north from France/Biscay) I've recorded since 1992. March & April are the least thundery months, with just 3 thunderstorms each in yhe last 15 years. August is the most thundery month with 20 thunderstorms in the same period. Graham Penzance |

Interesting figures - thanks. How do the months in between stack up?
