Hi, All,

It's good to know in these changing times that the good old spring
easterly can still make an appearance in NE England and also that the
North Sea is still relatively cool enough to make the next week's
daily forecasts the traditional challenge in our area.

Will the North Sea haar / fret / rope clear or will it not? Will it
cool enough for fog and drizzle or will it burn off enough for wall to
wall sunshine? Will it stay clear long enough overnight for frost?

Will NE folk ignore the difficulties and just complain about the
forecast?

Hehe. I like the glib way it gets skipped over on the forecasts -
"Perhaps some cloud near the east coast, but apart from that everywhere
will be warm and sunny".

Pah!

Yesterday afternoon, the fret came on in full force, even this far
inland (Swaffham, Norfolk). Within an hour, we'd gone from 17c in
sunshine to 9c in mist, drizzle and a strong NE wind.

Is this just ER - I've not heard it anywhere else.

Dad always pronounced it somewhere between "rawk" and "rork" (Jones
persists in calling it a "sea rogue" - I can't see why he can't get
his tongue round it when place names like Dwygyfylchi are no problem)

I'm from the ER and that's what we called it, and I haven't heard it
anywhere else either.

Up here it's definitely a 'haar', and Mr Wheeler suggested we might get
one later today, but so far it's been absolutely glorious. Can't provide
any temps as VP2 sensor is playing up.

There were south easterly winds here all day today but surprisingly no
haar or low cloud whatsoever. It was cloudy for a time during the
morning but it was medium level cloud, and it was never fully
overcast, otherwise sunny all day. Sunshine amounted to 10.84 hours,
min temp 4.1C, max 13.2C.

No sign of roke's drift from the east coast. Apologies, that was dreadful).
It was an OK 12.2 and cloudy day (afet morning showers), but looking across
to the coast from the top of the Wolds 1900 ish, the visibility was almost
to the coast approx 10 ,iles.
As with affecting snow cover in winter, I think the frequency of fog will be
reduced by higher sea temps.
