Anyone share in my delight at the weather today? Bright sunshine yet
lovely bearable temperatures. Is it all down to the saturated ground I
wonder. You can keep your 80 degrees!

Reminds me of the 60s when 80F was headline news!

The 70s actually had some baking summers, e.g '75 and '76 both with tenperatures
in the low 30s in the south.

I remember 1976 well - bright sunny days for weeks in the midlands. What I
don't remember is feeling too hot - I don't think the humidity as was high
as it seems nowadays - anybody got any figures on this?

I remember 1976 well - bright sunny days for weeks in the midlands. What I
don't remember is feeling too hot - I don't think the humidity as was high
as it seems nowadays - anybody got any figures on this?

The humidity was mostly pretty low in the 1976 summer but in
1975, August in particular, it was very hot and humid. But I don't
remember feeling all that bothered about it because in Aug 75 I was
half my present age and that makes a big difference. I don't think
there was another decent summer in the 70's, even by the standards of
those times.

My memory of the two summers is the opposite, possibly through living in
Suffolk at the time. For me, the summer of 1975 was hot but made pleasantly
fresh by sea breezes arriving early in the afternoons. 1976 however, was a
horror with no respite from the oppressive heat as there were few if any
sea breezes.

I was living in Bracknell in those years and remember 1976 for the
numerous fires in the heath and woodland surrounding the town,
suggesting a very dry summer.

What about the 50's? Those were the days of my youth. Halycon days
when the rain lead me to believe that the was no future in fast bowling
and that spin was the thing. Jim Laker etc.
Ah well maybe just as well we now get the mild winters. Saves me
sitting on my bottom on the ice and looking a nit in casualty - back
from the pub of course.

About twenty years ago I fell flat on my back on a sheet of ice whilst I was
on the way back from the pub. Luckily I was so relaxed that I didn't hurt
myself. Perhaps you hadn't had enough muscle relaxant?

I recall once waking up after a night on the beer with a massive bruise
on my arm and wondering how it got there. After a few minutes I recalled
an encounter with a frosty pavement.
I too, did not remember hurting mysef . Perhaps the medical profession
should
investigate the constituent of 'beer' to determine what it is that allows us
to
sustain what looks likes a rather unpleasant bruise without feeling
pain.....
