Very unusual in recent years, I would think, but not that uncommon in the 1950s-1970s. -- John Hall "Never play cards with a man called Doc. Never eat at a place called Mom's. Phil I guess there's still time if the "here in five days" high of recent forecasts ever actually makes an appearance... :-) I think this must be the 'worst' (depending on your view) summer for hot days since the eighties though - the other year which springs to mind (1998) had about 5 or 6 consecutive days of close to or above 30C in early-mid August. Only six days so far this year have exceeded 25C - it would be interesting to see what the lowest number of days to exceed 25C in past years is. -- Jonathan Stott Canterbury Weather: http://www.canterburyweather.co.uk/ Reverse my e-mail address to reply by e-mail |

"Adam Lea" wrote in message ... Has anywhere in the UK recorded a 30C max on any day this year yet? If not, how unusual is this? Adam In the 50s and 60s it was quite something to reach 28C never mind 30C on a regular basis. Of course in recent years we have become more accustomed to such heat, so when we get a rather cool summer (temperature wise) it seems wrong or unusual. Will -- |

Only 3 years have had an annual maximum less than 30C 1993: 29.7C at East Bergholt 1981: 29.5C at Kew. 1978: 28.8C at Poolewe The lowest annual maximum 1900-2006 was recorded at the old MetO station here in Raunds in 1920 with 27.8C See: http://www.personal.dundee.ac.uk/~ta...ttest_days.htm Ian Raunds, East Northants.
