Default Fabulous day in Dorset

First real chance for me to get out and enjoy the weather this summer.
And it was a glorious day! Sadly every man, woman and child also seemed
to be out and about, as shown by just how busy it was at Swanage:
http://www.jstott.me.uk/temp/swanage.jpg

Sadly the weather also brought out numpties whose horrendous parking
skills on the Studland Road caused the buses to/from Bournemouth and
Swanage to run well over an hour late :-/ (The buses were rammed - I
think three buses would have been needed to fit everyone who wanted to
use the one we were on!)

Rejoice that your fellow men can also enjoy the sunshine.
....

What looks to me like fair weather cumulus to be seen over Ballard Down.
Observations from the other end of the bay may be found at

I was in Swanage a couple of weeks ago and I took a picture from what looks
like almost the same location, and the beach was pretty packed:

Got back from our annual trip to Swanage early hours of Sunday morning. 1
wet day. 3 overcast days. 3 lovely sunny ones.
The whole place was remarkably quiet, compared to previous years, until
Saturday. Studland was as busy then as I've seen it for some time.

Same here, I'm quite looking forward to popping over the ferry on nice
days outside the summer :-)

We went there really only so one of my friends could explore the diving
opportunities there.

Good for diving here at the moment. Very calm sea, and little runoff
to cloud the water. Looked good at Kynance yesterday. www.cornwallcam.co.uk/
About as busy as it ever gets, but not quite Swanage!

I had my last Summer holiday with my parents at Swanage, in 1954. I was
seventeen and spent a lot of the time disagreeing with my father about
practically everything.

Since then, my children have followed the family tradition.

Swanage was a lot quieter then.

Whilst I can empathise with your sentiment Alan, for a good old fashioned
English family holiday, you can do a lot worse than Swanage, and there's
some wonderful scenery and World Heritage Coast too and we didn't go
anywhere near said beach.
With a young lad to consider, it's an ideal spot and was far nicer than
Spain earlier in the year, with the exception (mostly) of the weather!
We did also get around to introducing the poor lad to the delights of the SW
Coast path - so all was not lost!

For some children, I agree. I was taken to Bognor. Loved it!

However, my children were taken to a beach in Wester Ross called Mellon
Udrigle. If another beach user came within fifty yards it felt crowded.
They also loved it.

Coast path - so all was not lost!

That's the important bit :-)
