Hi Graham.

Looks like the middle of summer there! What's the SST in Mounts bay
like at present? Maps seem to show 17-18 a little further out to sea.
Just wondering what it's like in the shelter of Mounts Bay.

Ian,

17-18 a good guide at the moment, the highest it's been all year.
However beaches with a very gentle onshore breeze accumulate the warm
surface water, and can easily be 2-3C warmer mid to late afternoon.

Very warm today, 23C at 13:00, but a few banks of sea fog on the north
Cornish coast. No rain here since 20th August.

Completely [OT] but 100s of basking sharks of west Cornwall currently.
460 counted on one rib trip just off Land's End. The largest numbers
reported for decades.

For those in the SW, BBC Spotlight have had divers swimming with the
sharks near Cape Cornwall - should be some film on this evening's
programme.

Sounds more impressive than the 3 that were swimming around Tintagel
Head back when I was there in June: http://www.jstott.me.uk/temp/shark.jpg

Graham,

Certainly warm enough for a swim then. How does the SST compare to
last September?
BTW, I had a browse on your excellent web site, that funnel cloud in
August 2006 looks
a little too close for comfort...I'd have been cowering in the cellar
(after taking a photogragh!)
