Record summer in the Netherlands ?
Some figures for De Bilt in the Netherlands for summer 2003. Records go
back to 1901. Friday was the 76th day this summer with 20°C or above - equalling the record number of such days in 1976. Friday was the 47th day in a row with 20°C or above - the previous longest sequence was 39 days in 1995. 25°C has been reached on 40 days - only 1976 (41) and 1947 (46) have had more. 30°C has been reached on 11 days - the same number as in 1941 and 1995. Only 1976 (13) and 1947 (16) have had more. Just over 1500 hours sun have been recorded so far this year. Annual average of 1523.8 hours (basis 1971-2000) is thus likely to be exceeded very shortly - with over 4 months still to go. Source http://www.knmi.nl Colin Youngs Brussels |
