Penzance - Notable Dry Spell.
The current dry spell is quietly becoming quite significant.
The 50 day rolling rainfall total is now 40.2mm, the lowest since May '97. What makes it even more interesting is that this is not occuring during the normal dry period for Cornwall (April-July). (My highest 50 day running total being 462.8 on 1st January 2003) Also the average Max this month has been 18.6 (19.1, 19.2, 18.6, 19.3, 19.7, 19.1, 18.1, 19.2, 16.8, 17.7, 17.8). The lowest Max's this Autumn being 15.2 & 15.3 on 26th/27th Septermber. The SST is still 16C ( http://weather.noaa.gov/pub/fax/PTUK21.TIF ) only a degree lower than late July. Fairly [OT] but a few pics taken today at www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/NG.html 'Andsome afternoon. Graham Penzance |

'97. Graham During the last 50 days only 37.5mm has fallen here. The last significant rainfall fell on the 20th of August. It certainly has been a lovely spell of weather recently, very summer-like during the middle part of the day. The garden is very dry now but I'm refusing to water it. Tom and chilli plants are still producing fruits, as well as the aubergines, cucumbers are struggling a bit in the dry condtions. ______________ Nick G Ottervally, Devon |
