The MetO were not only predicting mist here all day, but if you go to
the Penzance forecast, click on recent past you will discover it has indeed been misty - except it hasn't. There's been a lot of bright weather with warm (up to 18C) sunny spells all around Mount's Bay. www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/Nomist.html In fact the Lizard is visible from Penzance (10 miles or so) It was beautiful down on Praa Sands beach at 14:00, sun & smallish glassy surf. Shorts & T shirt weather. Sadly, the MetO no longer have a clue what it's like on the Cornish coast most of the time (On Sunday they can't even get conditions from Pz heliport - it's shut.) So they use nearby places like Culdrose as a source of recent weather. It's a bit like using reports from that Hay Tor place and claiming that's the weather at Exmouth. Must stop rambling on & do something useful! Graham Penzance Just looked at the St Ives webcams www.nci-stives.org/basiccamera.htm looks pretty sunny on the north coast as well (15:45) |

Graham Penzance Just looked at the St Ives webcams www.nci-stives.org/basiccamera.htmlooks pretty sunny on the north coast as well (15:45) Now I know it's possible to get the forecast wrong, but when each hour, on the hour, they give the current weather in west Cornwall as either drizzle, mist or cloud, and it's like this www.sennen-cove.com/today2.htm I think they should give up & recommend people go to XCWeather or some such site. I've just had a brilliant idea. They could set up a network of stations reporting current weather from places people like to visit. They could call them resort reports. Then .... Graham Penzance |

It's looked proper 'andsome. Graham Penzance |

Graham Penzance Nah boring, wheres the ana cold front, heavy rain and tornadoes :-) Cloudy and dry here today, except we now have a thick soaking drizzle again now at 1920. But had a good moorland 14 mile walk today with no wind but hazy, visibility circa 4 miles. And ... saw a chink of blue sky at 0940 (yes I noted the time) - excitement indeed! Also a bit of sun behind thin clouds at times in the morning, even more excitement :-) Day max. a mild 14.4C. Will (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) -- |

I often take my daughter swimming there (PZ that is, not Cheltenham). There is no proper beach in Penzance, and swimming off the Battery Rocks can be a bit iffy. For those that don't know of it, I've put a picture at www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/JP.html It really is a pretty big pool. There's also a picture on my weather site of course www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/weather.html Graham Penzance |

Define "lido".www.lidos.org.uklists a good many outdoor pools, 6 in Cumbria... -- Cheers Dave. pam is missing e-mail That site seems to call most standard outdoor pools as lidos - in that case there's another one 4 miles away in Hayle. I think it's more usual just to include the 1930s pools, which is why the site has a page ( http://homepage.ntlworld.com/oliver....dos/lidos2.htm ) which lists 1930s lidos. The picture heading that page is Penzance Jubilee pool. I beieve there are only 2 large 1930s sea water lidos open, the other being Plymouth which re-opened 2 years ago & is really struggling. Penzance is the only 1930s example to have been open virtually continuously. It's also twice the size of Plymouth. (See http://homepage.ntlworld.com/oliver....tm#_Toc2087959 ) It's tidal in that water can only be pumped into it at high tide. The water is now treated and is only completely changed every 8 weeks or so. As a result the water in it as actually not that cold, usually 3-5C warmer than the sea. Graham Penzance |

Most of the show was about the Great Storm of 1987 - and I missed half of that, too. ![]() Fortunately Cheltenham missed the worst of that storm, though there were a number of trees down - not to mention fences, slates, etc... -- Paul Hyett, Cheltenham (change 'invalid83261' to 'blueyonder' to email me) |
