Grass Minimum recorder ?
 

I was wondering is there anything available on the market that can
record the grass minimum temperature(s) and store (log) the data for a
number of days? Someone I know asked me so he could monitor the grass
temperature in his allotment, but it would also be something useful for
myself as I lose any data when I go away from home for two days or more.

If you look on meteorlogica or ukweathershop sites, they both have
thermometers available with data logging that you can add a probe to. Prices
around £50/60 IIRC.

I can thoroughly recommend the Tinytag data loggers made by Gemini. I use
the Tinytag plus2 logger which can take two temperature probes and store
data. It is weatherproof, although I would not leave the logger unit without
some cover from the rain. It is stand alone operation, but it needs a PC or
Laptop to offload the data. Software is provided that can produce graphs or
tabular values. If set to sample at one minute intervals it has capacity to
store 11 days worth of data. The calibration is excellent, and better than
0.05C at 0C, from my own calibration checks.

I'm amazed at the options I have in front of me, this one though is
probably the best as far as datalogging with my current setup.

Just had a read of that, so am I right in saying what you are doing is
using the 'Inside temperature sensor' interface by replacing it with an
external sensor on an extension cable? So where Weatherlink displays
the 'IN' temperature you will now actually see a grass temperature, if
that is where you placed the sensor? Do Davis or John Dann supply the bits ?

Yes

Do Davis or John Dann supply the bits ?

Don't know, but John Dann suggested this idea some time ago. At the time I
had a spare Davis unit which I was going to raid for the bits. In the end I
set that unit up at another site.
