The "Bali roadmap" initiates a two-year process of negotiations designed
to agree a new set of emissions targets to replace those in the Kyoto
Protocol.

I realy don't see any serious progress here, all talk and no action. So
in two years time we'll have another go at setting emissions targets,
what a cop out! Lets face it the human race will not act on this one and
I bet all these deligates will get bonus's for their part in these
negotiations. "Reward for failure" ~ Mmm, sounds familiar.? Bali's a
nice place for a jolly all the same!

If my understandings correct, even the uk has failed in reaching it's
own targets over the past few years, and although reduced emissions on
paper as a Country we have increased them in 'real-terms', spin is the
term I think we use. You've oonly got to sit in those ever increasing
traffic jams in the SE everyday, to know it's getting worse by the day.
Lets face it, we just ain't taking this seriously, no one has any
answers or the 'balls' to stand up and be counted. The speed of this
change I fear is unprecidented in the planets history and we are on the
road to disaster, so I guess there's no point worrying about and just
carry on as though nothing is changing, anyway, it's someone else's
problem isn't it!

Well, let's sit back and watch the American disater movie unfold., it'll
make good viewing figures in the ratings.

Failed once again.

There was more progress than it seemed. Firstly they actually got an
agreement which was quite suprising considering the behaviour that took
place as is quoted here.

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stori...317495/1/.html

"Pakistani ambassador to the United Nations Munir Akram, representing the
group of developing economies, accused unnamed rich nations of threatening
developing countries with trade sanctions if they did not "undertake
commitments which are quintessentially unfair".

So we had bullying taking place here. Quite frankly this Bali conference
was a bit of a disgrace.

We owe the Americans a debt of gratitude for dragging their feet owe this
AGW story.

Climate is dynamic. Wherever it is going right now we have no control over
it. The observations are not in agreement with the rhetoric. Gore's fantasy
DVD should be placed on the "Fiction" shelf and we should start to worry
about the clear and present danger facing us because man can't keep his
collective todger in his pants.

All this bleeding hearts and self harming is no way to formulate social
policy and manage the world.

As for the snorters at the Bali trough, well, it's a shame they can't find
real jobs. How much Jet A1 did they burn so that they might quaff fine wines
at our expense at this vulgar jamboree?

:-) Apparently this jamboree in Bali produced more CO2 than the ANNUAL
output of Chad.
I know Chad is not a member of the G7, but thats not the point.

This lot in Bali spent too much time using it as an excuse to bully other
countries as I have quoted above.
I thought it stunk.

In case anyone has forgotten, oil at close to US$100 a barrel, is proving to
be very effective in ensuring ongoing energy efficicency.

I just think its a bit rich, the G7 telling the world how to act without
putting its own house in order first. The most amusing thing I've heard is US
citizens complaining about the price of oil etc., but then they do give the
impression of being the most parochial population in the world...

Nobody likes to be told what to do - full stop, which is why CO2 emissions will
continue to rise unless and until something mega catastrophic is on the
immediate horizon. That's just the way it is :-(

Modern man has never experienced a catastrophe of global proportions. One
will come along soon enough and it won't be anything to do with the level of
CO2 in the atmosphere.

Besides if CO2 was so toxic we'd do something about the destruction of the
rain forests. I wonder what proportion of the increase in atmospheric CO2 in
the last 100 years can be attributed to deforestation activity??

It is so very easy to get carried away with our cosey cosseted lifestyle, we
are completely isolated from the reality of our irrelevance in the grand
scheme of things.

I'm sure I said this before and I'm sure it is very unpalatable to most
people, but, whether it is self inflicted or apparently undeserved, it will
take a catastrophe to rid the world of this human infestation.

Go outside on a clear dark night. Look up at the stars and ask your self
"will we really be missed?"

Any idea what?

I heard a figure the other day of circa 25%. Apparently deforestation is a major
contributor. To me it is not the CO2 increase that is so sad, it is the removal
of animal's homes.

It is so very easy to get carried away with our cosey cosseted lifestyle, we
are completely isolated from the reality of our irrelevance in the grand
scheme of things.

I don't see us as an infestation, I see us as part of this planet's evolution.

Missed by whom or what?

We are a part of the Universe and I am sure we have a valued place in the great
scheme of things. I look up at the stars and I feel a sense of belonging as well
as awe.

Even that's becoming more and more difficult.

The last time we saw a clear dark sky was at 14,500 feet close to the
Sikkim/Nepal border in the foothills of Kanchenjunga in 2001. Nothing
that I've seen in the UK in the last thirty-odd years compares to that
sort of sky. It's unbelievably beautiful - and humbling.
