kindly posted the PDF of a note I prepared for COL in 2004 on this
subject, including a detailed analysis of a decade of hourly rainfall

It's obviously less relevant with greater distance from Berkshire, but
the broad distribution is probably relevant to much of south-east
England. The item was written in response to a letter commenting that
getting wet in the afternoon 'school run' seemed to be a much more
frequent occurrence than in the morning run, and this analysis
attempts to explain why that should be. Hope those who've expressed an
interest in the subject find something of interest in the note. It
would be interesting to see comparisons from other climate regimes
within the country.

The analysis also illustrates the useful and interesting site-specific
data that can be derived from AWSs with even just a few years' data.
My original AWS, a Davis Weather Monitor II, was installed in Feb 1993
(15 years ago next month) and is still going strong, having surpassed
the 1.5 million observations mark about 8 months ago: it's now in semi-
retirement as my 'backup system' but is still reliable and accurate.
