Still continuing. Typical Path: reads:
Path: uni-berlin.de!fu-berlin.de!news.glorb.com!cyclone1.gnilink.net!
gnilink.net!hwmnpeer01.lga!hwmedia!hw-poster!fe08.lga.POSTED!
53ab2750!not-for-mail

with the first bits being the last part of the path. I don't know enough
about reading these things to say where it's coming from though.

All the headers I've looked at are allegedly from IP address
24.186.189.211. According to ws.arin.net this belongs to Optimum Online
(Cablevision System), whose URL seems to be www.optimumonline.com.

But I don't know if this is genuine.

Anne

I used the Spamcop reporting system which confirms this IP address and
Network owner.

Its weird, some of the subject lines start [WR], which suggests to me that
it maybe corrupting some incoming legitimate postings.

Suggests to me that it is someone who is familiar with the group rather than
a random attack.

The NTL server seems to be blocking the posts now so thy all seem to be
catching up.

How do i block that ip address?

Depends on your software, Gary. I don't know anything about OE, I'm afraid.

I have a separate unix box which acts as a news server and runs Leafnode
- it's a simple matter to filter on any part of the header, so I don't
even download the bodies of the messages. Still have to process the
headers, though.

Not spam. but something far worse even than that, namely an attempt to
make the group unusable by flooding it with gibberish. I've sent a
report to , with one of the articles - including full
headers - attached.
