Default OT - Outlook Express help please

This is probably a simple fault to correct, but I need some advice
please.

Although I am still receiving e-mails, I am no longer able to send
mail via either of my two e-mail accounts.

Is there a simple trouble-shooting remedy you could suggest, apart
from change my mail software!

Thanks in anticipation

Is it a demon account by any chance? If it is, I'm having the same
issue (error msg below) and wonder whether it's demon rather than my
system ...? I've tried demon support but they are as slow and useless
as ever.

No Stephen, it's not Demon - I left them long ago!

One account is via btinternet, the other is via my domain name at
Namesco.

Bit of a nuisance though:-(

Demon (and BT) are very picky about the exact smtp/post server
stipulated. I don't know how this works in Outlook Depressed, but in
Turnpike, which I use, while you can set any name you like as the sender
address or reply-to address, the posting server in the connection
dialogue has to be the right one for the ISP. Is it possible that some
autocomplete feature (perhaps helpfully installed in a recent Windows
update?) has rewritten your server details? To something like
'smtp.bablake.co.uk' instead of the proper BT or Namesco server?

Stephen's problem looks as if it coiuld be something like that - it
looks as if he is trying to connect to the BT mail server with a Demon
ID.

Thanks Kate - that's a start - can you suggest where would the
settings have been changed and how to change them back? Or would you
suggest re-setup my Outlook Express/Demon mail all over again?

All help gratefully appreciated!

What happens when you try to send mail? Any error messages?

I had the error message shown in post 2 - but demon tech support
finally woke up and told me it was a demon-end problem, nothing to do
with my system, and they hoped to have it fixed within 24 hours.
Remains to be seen whether it was a brush-off though.

Absolutely nothing Steve, my mail is just sitting there in the outbox,
even when i press the send button - there is no size problem either as
in the past some attachments have been too big to go through!

Using webmail right now, so I can still send e-mail at least.

Thanks for asking.

BT changed their mail config early today - I've followed their config
guide and can now send from all bar 1 of my addresses that I've
configured so far. The big problem is that the 1 that's not working is
my primary address (will[at]lancre{dot}net) - identically configured to
all my other addresses at that domain and sending from the same client
with the same configuration. The only response from BT's helpdesk so far
has been to point me at a Microsoft page explaining what a 553 error is,
despite me explaining the problem in detail and including headers from
both failing and working mails. Bunch of incompetent ******* in my
opinion. I'm now seriously considering moving to Zen once I'm out of my
current contract with BT.
