Yuck, southern Spain sounds like Hell to me. If I were ever to move abroad
(which is most unlikely), it'd be to northern climes - Alaska, Canada, the
Nordic countries. Even there, however, they can still have unpleasantly warm
conditions in their brief summers. NB - I hate summer with a passion,
temperatures in the mid 20s or higher are anathema to me.

More of the same please, I really enjoyed the snow yesterday and especially
the fact it was the coldest Easter day I can remember! Ideally we'd be
setting more cold records in the months to come, it's about time we balanced
out all those incessant heat records of recent years.

Snow [Will and loads of others here] in this country at least is
completely baffling to me. After all the alpine/continental type clear
crisp cold stuff hardly ever transpires here so i dunno what all the fuss
is about. For the most part its dull, damn freezin, and thoroughly
miserable and I'm in west London too! which is hardly - a bearing the
brunt- location. I been out all day wrapped up too plus am quite used to
the outdoors and I come home feeling really exposed and in need of a hoyt
bath and i'm going to bed early. Has this something to do with such a kind
winter we hads I wonder? I tell you all these Will Hands in the world
won't convince me that its exciting. Exciting? what the heck is he on
about. What has really put the tin hat on it is I checked the BBC long
range and oh God no they are forecasting this flow well into the first TWO
weeks of April!! How thoroughly terrible is THAT for a thought. At least
the sun if it comes out at this time of year could compensate it slightly.
But you get no sun out of Highs to the NW and Lows to SE in East and South
Eastern areas, which is predicted. I'm in the wrong country I know, I
should be wintering in southern Spain. I'm retiring soon I know were I'm

I'm not sure like my name taken in vein, but Dave R if you lived on Dartmoor
you'd be as excited and as interested in the weather as me! Yesterday
morning was wonderful seeing genuine heavy snow with large flakes bringing
visibility down to fog limits. OK it didn't last but it was nice to see and
far more interesting than this morning which is dry, cloudy and a little
chilly with a temperature of +4.5C . We never do get proper Alpine snow in
England so you'd better lower your expectations. We never get Mediterranean
type summers either so you'd better lower your expectations there as well.
We get good o'l British weather with all its variability and yes,
disappointments, and I love it!

Watching deep lows track across Britain not knowing exactly where they are
to go, watching thunderstorms break out, not knowing if they are going to
produce hail or become tornadic, and the mystery and wonder of fog and mist,
I love "wolkensee" weather for example and yes I also like warm summer days
when it's summer. Good luck in your retirement, when I retire I *may* buy a
property in Austria to get even colder weather in winter and still enjoy the
wonderful and varied British summers LOL.

Well said Darren, I would want that too. My ideal climate is Munich.
Thunderstorms in summer and guaranteed snow in winter and mountains nearby.
Hmmmm now there's a thought, might be a bit hot though, as like you, I am
uncomfortable with temperatures over 25C. I also note the excitement on TWO
with the recent snowfalls, nothing wrong with enthusiasm, it keeps you
young, as does sledging!

Whilst the climate here in ol' Blighty is certainly one of the most
interesting and changeable of climates I can appreciate it is not to
everyone's tastes, especially when it's cold and nasty (like at the moment).

But it is the climate that has helped create the British Isles' green
landscapes and lush deciduous woodlands.

I've lived in the Med during the summer and at first it was lovely, being
able to sit outside every evening (overnight minimums of 22C-24C) making
good use of the swimming pool but after a month I started to get very bored
of the weather; opening the bedroom shutters in the morning to yet another
cloudless sky did start to lose its novelty very quickly and lacked that
expectation. And the daily grind of having to actually work in the heat of
the day was draining making even the slightest physical effort a very sweaty
and energy sapping ordeal.

I also remember arriving back at Brum Airport in September after 3 months in
Crete and walking off the aeroplane into the wonderfully cool, early morning
air. There had recently been a thunderstorm which was still rumbling away in
the grey distance to the north whist the sun was just rising casting long
shadows in its orange, misty light. I drove onto the empty motorway and had
the window down gulping in the scented air that seemed incredibly fresh, and
with the lush green grass everywhere; it was just fantastic after living in
such a hot and dusty place.

I'm very fussy, I like the temps not to go lower than 10c in winter and
no higher than 25c in summer. I think a coastal home in Galicia would
suit me to a tee.

Reminds me of arriving home after 47ºC in Queensland (so they
said) - the only way to survive was to put the plastic poolside
chairs in the pool, which had a cane sunshade over it, and sit
there with a book to read.

We arrived at Thiefrow to find the temperature was -4ºC, and it
was so refreshing to stand outside in the frost after the
searing heat down under.

I reckon I'd like a climate where the winter temperature never
gets above freezing, and the summer temperature never gets above
30ºC, but the most important thing would be no rain during the
hours of daylight. There would have to be gales as well, but
preferably not more often than say fortnightly, in autumn and
winter only, of course, and not lasting more than 48 hours at a
time.

It's a very good thing that H sapiens hasn't (yet?) learned to
control the weather g

Absolutely, I got back from Istanbul Saturday night and it was only 20C
there, but after being taken to the wrong airport initially and then been
driven at 150kph along the hard shoulder of the motorway to the right
airport, believe me the fresh cold air ouitside Luton Airport was heaven to
my sweat ridden body!!
