Default Hints of good summer ahead.

Something I mentioned to my Wife who was getting fed up with the cool
and wet weather of this spring was that it's a good sign for a better
summer. I then just stumbled across this from Philip Eden quoting
similar years which include 1975, 1976 and 1987 which I think were
probably some of the warmest summer months this century in the UK

http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-a...E=extra_ne.tit

Only last year April gave so many people a sence of a long hot summer
and then it all went terribly wrong. Looking at the trends in the models
April looks like being plagued with easterlies with most of the rain in
the south. A long way to go yet, but anyone wanting some real summery
weather will have to wait till May.

Just my personal thoughts.

Easterlies without Scandy High Pressure I guess Keith?
High Pressure 'Easterlies' are normally signs of the dry and hot stuff and
even warm in April - arent they?

Keith 1975, 1976 I agree but 1987 I'm not so sure, certainly wasn't
here!

Of course, it all depends on how you define "summery" :-)

Easterlies in spring are never nice for much of yorkshire as the cold
north sea sends in damp misty low cloudy days even down hear in South
Yorksire.

Thanks.

Anyone else define summer as a prison sentence, with parole usually
coming some time in early September?

If you'ld like my very humble opinion Paul ,I think it will be a very
ordinary summer this year some nice, some grotty some wet and some dry
,nothing to write home about then.
So poor enough to enable all you shade loving perennials to keep your vests
on.
Anybody else want to join in with a summer forecast ?,the worst attempt
should give a tenner to their favourite charity come September......

Well, if the trends of the last few years or so are anything to go by (last
summer excluded), this summer is likely to be warmer, sunnier and drier than
the LTA, with a higher than normal risk of extreme heat.

I was instantly reminded of sunny days at Bognor in my childhood with
ham and Branston sandwiches for lunch.

Thanks for that :-)
