Default Colder than I expected

Having noticed much higher 850 hPa's forecast I was surprised it has only
crawled up yo a max of 15.5C today.

Dave,
Colder air had tucked into the southeast this morning behind the cold
front. The 850 hPa temperature was only 6.6 C at Shoeburyness at 10Z,
compared to 13.8 C at De Bilt at 12Z.

Aha, thanks, that it explains it, I'd heard a forecast 21C and seen a GFS
850 hPa around 12C at some point for today.

Wasn't the Countryfile forecast on Sunday predicting mid-20's for today?

Yes it was forecast for 21C for us today but only reached 16.8C.
Also should have been dry from about mid morning onwards, but rained
again after lunch.
