Upper air looks right for a spell of settled and summery weather next week.
An upper trough disruption this weekend will ensure pressure will build across the neck and resulting subsidence will ensure clearing skies. Eventually by the end of next week it could well turn hot with temperatures 28-30C in a few spots. Hot enough to trigger a few very isolated storms. Should be lovely in Devon with cooling sea breezes and temperatures up here on Dartmoor up to a scorching 22-25C. Time to get the Mirror dinghy out and escape the heat I think. Unless something changes dramatically the above will form the basis of my weekly Dartmoor forecast on my web site. Will (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) -- |

Took your time with that forecast unless I missed one you done already. We
known about it for several days now and Dawlish has been sticking his neck out further than you. I suppose its a case of ' if Will says so then its very likely' so he waits till the last moment to get this achievement. Tomorrow it'll be the BBC's turn. -- Dave R. [west London] |

[west London] Until the last day or so, it was only the GFS progging the upcoming (hopefully! it's not here yet, and til it is.... ) fine spell. Indeed, the ECM painted a very different (and awful summer synoptics) picture with the MO somewhere in between. Now there is much better agreement on a big improvement in the next few days, Will has put his neck on the block. Fair enough, I'd have done the same. The reason (if I am right in saying.. Paul correct me if I'm wrong) that Dawlish called it earlier, is that he uses the GFS at 240h. In this case it was out on its own for a while. Jim. |

I think you've got an excellent chance of this occurring Will. I too think summer is on it's way. Bang on time really, hardly "at last" as it is only 5 days in! Yes, the gfs was out on it's own for a while, but it had shown me the necessary 5 consecutive runs with these conditions showing; hence why I'd forecast this too. The weather will begin to settle before then, though it's not going to be good for everyone (good is subjective, I know!). Devon should be absolutely glorious next week and I think a walk on the moor could be in order next weekend, with maybe an ice-cream in car park at Haytor on the way back! Paul Paul |
