Well, it's not looking good if you're a sun and heat lover for this summer, now we're *into July and high pressure seems to be avoiding us like the plague. Is this goning to be two years in a row, something not unusual, of grim summer weather? *Of course, it may pick up for August, one can only hope. -- Keith (Southend) Hey Keith how is it you can get away with criticising the awful summer and the prospect of it continuing to be awful when I get called an old moaner for exactly the same thing? Oh I get it, yes, your in the "fan club" are you? or am I just better at it. Hi Dave, I must have missed you being called that, I tend to have to flick through posts quickly as I just seem to be forever racing against time, but I'm sure my wife would say I can be an old moaner as well so don't take it personnally ;-) *August I'll be struggling to keep things upto date as I have a weekes holiday plus working overseas for two weeks, so I'm not sure how I will find time to play catch with my website. Of course this maybe while I have a hunch August may be better as I will miss it! "Fan Club" ? That should cheer the old moaner up. Also, yesterday's hints of a ridging of the Azores high for next weekend were exactly that; hints and no more. Slow moving low pressures. 2007 part 2 - at least until the middle of July. Don't you just love it! Paul |

Most of us on here, I assume, were born in the British Isles and have spent most of our lives here and should therefore be completely acclimatised to the British Isles weather. Yet, the range of temperature in which we feel most comfortable varies hugely from individual to individual. For some (including me) an ideal summer afternoon temperature is 17-18c. For others the ideal is over 30c. I suspect that the great majority favour somewhere around 25c. Also, some people like air with a high dew point while others prefer a low dew point. I wouldn't begin to offer a reason why there is such variability in what feels comfortable but there is no doubt that the variability exists. As far back as I can trace, my roots are in West Scotland (mother's family) and NW Ireland (father's family). It's very unlikely that there is any "southern" blood in me. That could account for my preference for relatively cool weather :-) My wife can trace her paternal ancestry to Poland and her maternal ancestry to Russia. She also prefers cool weather, even cooler than my preference. Norman -- Norman Lynagh Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire 85m a.s.l. (remove "thisbit" twice to e-mail) |

Norman I think my preferences are more down to aesthetic appeal, I like cold weather in winter, warm (not necessarily boiling hot) weather (with a few heat-generated storms) in summer, and anything as long as it's bright in spring. Then again it could be because I'm originally from somewhere like southern Germany, which I guess is the region of Europe those conditions are closest too... Nick |

To add to this developing theory:-
Some years ago, one of my daughters had a DNA test at uni for an ancestral trait. Turns out to have been of viking origin, so wife and self followed suit. As I had worked extensively in the Baltic and loved every moment, I assumed it was my genes, and felt quite privileged. Not so it transpired, it was 'er indoors to her great delight. My wife can sleep under 2 x 15 tog duvets at any time and loves 30C+ temps. I dispense with 5 tog duvets over 15C and a hot day commences at 20C. Need less to say, we have separate sleeping arrangements! Peter J |
