TEN DAYS RAIN TO HIT BRITAIN TOMORROW

By John Ingham and Fiona Bradley

MONSOON Britain will be lashed by 10 days of rain in just 24 hours
tomorrow as the miserable summer ends with a bang.

Forecasters warned of a “severe weather event”, with thunderstorms and
torrential downpours hitting a large swathe of the country.

The UK will pay for today’s heatwave, when temperatures are set to
reach 81F (27C) from southern England up to the Midlands. Tropical
conditions will strike with a vengeance tomorrow, with storms working
their way north across the eastern half of the country from the South
to Aberdeenshire.

The Met Office predicted the “severe event” would affect eastern
England and eastern Scotland during tomorrow.

....and of course Piers C got his usual mention!!!

"The weather may settle down a bit by the end of the week. But independent
forecaster Piers Corbyn of WeatherAction.com issued a stark warning of
flooding towards the end of September.
The astrophysicist - who bases his forecasts on a study of the sun - said
the first 10 days of September will be mostly dry and sunny.
But he predicted bad weather tracking through the North of England, Scotland
and Ireland between September 11 and 14 before heading south to cause floods
in Central England.
Dr Corbyn predicted serious floods in the Midlands and southern England from
September 25 to 28."

First 10 days mostly dry and sunny???? Hah, if only!

More ********. As I said last week September looks to be cyclonic and wet
but then I use "traditional meteorology" not sun-gazing rubbish.

Just so. Has anyone ever considered writing a Letter to the Editor
about why this paper seems to regularly produce bizarre weather
articles?
On the other hand, perhaps it does not have a Letters column

Oh, don't say that, Will. It means we'll get nothing in these
parts as usual.
I saw the Express headline in passing and wonder if they've got
it all mixed up with TS Gustav because they mentioned "Tropical
Storms". The Mahler Society are suing. What a silly paper.

"Ten days' rain" represents about an inch, hardly that rare a daily
fall. A cunning way to be unnecessarily alarmist.

You've hit the nail on the head. I wouldn't lower myself to buy the Daily
Getsworse, but I had a sneaky look in Tesco today. Basically they are
saying that the average rainfall in August is around 90mm; some places may
get 30mm, so this is 10 days of rain. Obviously the headline conjours up a
vison of 10 days of rain concentrated in one day, whereas the truth is
somewhat different. I suspect that readers of the Express and Mail must
live in a permanent state of paranoia.

Yep, Will, that was the first thought that came to mind then swiftly
followed by a few other expletives and character asassinations...just wasn't
brave enough to put it so succinctly! ;-)

Can I write 'bull****'? Yep, I can...

I have written to their website a couple of times but to no avail.
Headline-grabbing wins over content for utter filth such as the
Express/Mail.
