Only one day has even come close (19.1C on 10th).
Only in 1997 have I gone through September with no temperature that high, but there must be a distinct possibility of a repeat, this year. -- Paul Hyett, Cheltenham (change 'invalid83261' to 'blueyonder' to email me) |

The only September I've recorded with no day reaching 20C was 1992. Interestingly, in 1997 9 September days reached 20C (though the highest was 21.0C), and 2 more on October. So far this month warmest days have been 19.4C on 10th, and 19.2C on 13th. So far this year just 22 days have reached 20C. Prevous 5 years 88, 76, 80, 88, 67 days respectively! Quite remarkable. Max of 23C on 9th, 22.1 on 10th, 21.1 on 12th and 22.0 on 13th. The last few days have been among the best of the summer with a lovely sunny weekend. Should keep a certain Mr.R happy that for once the weather seems to have been better in the S.E ;-) Dave, S.Essex. |

Not too surprising - you're rather closer to the anticyclone. -- Paul Hyett, Cheltenham (change 'invalid83261' to 'blueyonder' to email me) |

3 days have exceeded 20°C here, but all three of them were only just higher
than 20°C with 20.1°C, 20.1°C & 20.2°C on the 12th, 13th & 14th. The sea temperatures are around their highest at the moment so it only takes a little bit of extra warming from the sun to break the 20°C mark. ________________ Nick. Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

The sea temperatures are around their highest at the moment Normally, but not this year. The SST is currently only around 15C at Sevenstones (it was 17C for a few days back in in July.) It's currently barely 16C in Mount's Bay WITH a favourable onshore wind. Back in 2005 the SST was 17C at Sevenstones in June and exceeded 20C in July! The latest MetO SST analysis (14th Sept) shows temperatures of just 15-16C right around the coast of Devon & Cornwall, down a degree on a week or so ago. In the far SW both SST & average maximum temperatures have been about 2C down this summer compared with the norm for the last 15 years. Graham Penzance |

SST in Lyme Bay today around 16.6°C with cloudy conditions. Last year at this time during similar weather they were 17.5°C. It seems that the lack of sunshine this August is to blame as the SSTs were roughly similar to last year (or slightly above) until the beginning of August. Warm/sunny Augusts seem to make all the difference. ________________ Nick. Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |
