I suspect that a ground frost will be widespead on Saturday
morning and an air frost from northern England northwards.

Blimey, well I hope it stays northwards.

Today (and the last few couple of weeks) have been glorious. Calm, warm,
sunny and dry; the garden is now like it would be in the middle of a normal
summer. You can sit on the grass without getting a wet arse, everything is
dry. No more squelching through mud on walks and just to be able to enjoy
the outdoors without getting wet!

To think it is going to come to an end is something that I am not looking
forward to.

Of course, it wouldn't be so bad if we would have actually had a summer.

Lordy NO I certainly dont expect the sort of recent conditions to last, they
are your words, being put into my mouth. The bonkers bit is because you have
said you look forward with some anticipation to these (A sequence of cold
fronts coming down on Thu/Fri giving a proper northerly by Friday and the
promise of a cold night.) conditions next Friday.

All things being equal I'd prefer the present conditions to continue
but as they are not I'm looking forward to an interesting change
in conditions.

How anyone can positively enjoy the thought of THAT is beyond me but worse
still, is to actually post about it as well
I wouldnt have even given it a second thought to have done that over a such
minor event as a bit of an early October frosty night.

This is a weather group, Dave. We talk about the weather and not
just the type of weather you can 'enjoy'. It's a major change in type
coming up and I'm sorry if you don't think that's worth posting
about, I thought it might have initiated some discussion, obviously
I was wrong.

And they are my words coming from my mouth.

Are you sure it's your mouth they are coming from?

No why not stay Col is full of anticipation for Friday morning lol

Has this newsgroup really come to this, when people can't
even post about looking forward to different weather conditions
without being mocked by the likes of you?

I shouldh've kept you in the killfile where you belong.

Dave only really wants to talk about hot and sunny weather, which he
expects to happen all the time, in SW London, in Autumn. Any other
kind of weather gets complained about. Fair enough, but you've got to
think that may be an expectation of late September weather in the UK,
which is seldom fulfilled!

Here's the commentary that I published today, on http://totallyweatherandclimate.co.uk/
It also talks about anticipation of some very interesting weather,
Col. I agree with your thoughts and keep giving them! 2 days ago, I
also published a 10-day forecast showing zonal conditions on the 7th
Oct (on the site).

"The change will be tough to bear - but potentially very
interesting!

The very last day of nice weather - and it's a work day! Much of
England and Wales will see a decent day today, but the wetter weather
over Scotland will spread to all areas tomorrow and this 3-week (ish)
fine spell will be over. Then we've got all sorts to look forward to.
Eyes on the Scottish mountain webcams as the first Autumn lee
northerly, in the wake of this midweek low, brings a decent chance of
snow for the high Munros on Thursday and some cool weather and a
chance of frost on the following night, much further South. That will
be a shock to the system and hard to bear! (Brrr). 2-fleece weather,
after shorts and a T-shirt yesterday!

Following that; windy weather on Saturday, before a brief ridge gives
some clear skies and a chance of sunshine and early frost for some
areas on Sunday/Monday. Next week sees the Atlantic in full flow and
more wet and windy weather."

I've also got a forecast at outcome today. Here's the original
forecast from the 19th Sept.

"On Sept 29th, at T240, the UK's weather will continue to be dominated
by high pressure. As always, the precise location of the high pressure
is not possible to accurately forecast at 10 days, but the period out
to the 29th looks fine and dry for many. Indeed, some areas could be
looking at 3 weeks without rain at the end of this forecast period.
For the next week, expect the high pressure to stay located to our NE,
over Scandinavia, producing an extended period with winds from an
easterly quarter, especially for England. Towards the end of this
forecast period, there is a possibility that the anticyclone will move
westwards and will either be sitting right over the UK, or will be
sitting out to our west, perhaps turning the winds more northerly.

Last Updated ( Monday, 29 September 2008 11:38 ) "

You can judge its accuracy on the site.

Paul

Nonesense Paul! but I can hardly see Col Friday is goin to be an event of
some interest
apart from a drop in wind speed which is welcome oh as an aside, an its West
London not SW but no big deal

That is precisely how I interpreted your original comment - we have
had a good deal of weather off the Atlantic this 'summer' and
therefore a few days of a different air stream will, indeed, be
interesting.

Also, come to think about it, last winter there were two or three
northerly blasts greeted/forwarned by newsgroup contributors, with
considerable discussion about snow etc penetrating into the south. Not
a lot happened IIRC, but it did see a rise in postings of the sort
that interests me whereas daily obs tend not to - with the exception
of a neighbour to my north and one to my east

here'
