I use to love that style of weather man and presentation, now it seems
to be a conveyor belt of 'boys own' and 'Girls Aloud' lookalikes. Of
course my nostalgia for the likes of Jack wasn't only that he was a
real meteorologist who presented in a serious way; it was also the
fact that he had very intersting weather to forecast more so in the
Autumn and Winter. Alas the likes of Jack and those winters have left
us maybe never to return?

You know Martin people now would say of Jack's ilk 'old School'.
However I would say 'Right School'.

Very sorry to hear this ... he provided me with
considerable guidance and encouragement behind
the scenes when started out in broadcasting ... and
when I was officially "the opposition".

I completely endorse the sentiments of all other weather enthusists
here.
I grew up watching Jack on the 'telly'. I'm sure his natural modesty
would prevent him from realising the inspiration he gave to one young
boy (and no doubt countless others) in persuing a career in
forecasting. Without the magic of Scott, Foord, Parker, Best et al, I
would not be doing what I'm doing today.

And don't forget the first of them all, George Cowling, who is still
with us today.

RIP.

As well as his broadcasts being clear and informative, he came across as
being a very nice man.
