Mind you I suppose it is if you go right around the world and approach it eastwards |

Hi Keith
It would be good if you had comparisons for 1962. I think you will find a massive difference of at least 10 or 15 C lower. These temperatures are balmy compared with 1962, which does not lead me t o believe that anything fromthe East is going to be that cold. We don't even see the 528 DM encroach anywhere near the UK shores. I had a look at one of those old charts for 23rd December 1962 and bare in mind temperatures are for 06:00 hrs and I've just guessed where the locations are from the map: Oslo -13°C Stockholm -6°C Warsaw -15°C Berlin -11°C Paris -4°C Reykjavik +4°C Copenhagen -6°C -- Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net e-mail: kreh at southendweather dot net |

We don't even see the 528 DM encroach anywhere near the UK shores. We are obviously going to need a prolonged easterly to bring in anything really cold from that direction. I remember in the last week of January, 1986 the wind turned to the east after a prolonged spell of zonal weather that had taken mild conditions deep into Europe. It took almost a week of easterlies before really cold weather reached the UK, but it did eventually arrive. -- John Hall "It is a very sad thing that nowadays there is so little useless information."
